Mine is ovalised and i need something new. Pig DH - $40, or Pig DH with cartridge bearings for $70? Do cartridge bearings increase the life of the head set? Is it worth the money?

Pigs are simple to clean. Every month or two, I just take apart my headset out of boredom, and stuff with lots of press grease. Uber easy. Take 5 min.

do you use a industrial pressure washer on your headset or something???

i run FSA Pig (bigball) unsealed headsets in both my bikes, and i have yet to HAVE to service the bearings in either bike...

while i have regreased the headsets a few times when i've been swapping forks out (which i have done a few time, haahah)...

it wasnt because i needed to thou... the grease was certainly not so clean anymore, but it was still fully functional and DEF. didnt need complete cleaning/regreasing....

im wondering how much water pressure your blasting your headset with....

The regular pig is better then the sealed I think. The sealed version does not press together as easily and you have the pain of replacing a sealed bearing (finding one that works) if the time ever does come. As with the pig, in a pinch, you could just run all ball bearings and no race.

I like sealed bearing headsets.

But the basic Pig does work, is easy/quick to clean/regrease, and doesn't need servicing as much as other low priced headsets. Come to think of it, I've not had any rusting problems - just dirty/old grease after a few months of riding. Headset fits together very well.

I hose my bike off after EVERY ride, so if pressured water getting into the headset was an issue I would have run into it.

Jeez, I've left unsealed Pig's for months and months, maybe even years without touching them. No problems.

Come to think of it, I had a top cup crack on a Pig DH. But it was already a couple years old. Still a great value in a HS
