Hey. I'm looking for tire suggestions for my new Chap frame. A 2.5" High Roller just fits, but a 2.4" Specialized Evil Twin doesn't.

Front isn't an issue, but I'm looking for a good rear tire for winter riding on the Shore - as big as possible.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Kenda Nevegal with the DH bead. Available in an accurate 2.5.

Soft compound for great grip, very durable sidewall for low psi flat-free riding. Priced well too. Overtime has them for around $70. JH also stocks them. :)

This coming from a lifelong Norco rider...

Yeah, that was what I was thinking. Just wondering if there are any other options out there.

I really liked the Minions I was running, and those are available in 2.5" in the super tacky compound. Way grippy.

Ahh, but they are not Norco tires my friend...they only distribute them.

I purchased my second set on my own accord.

I've used the Maxxis Minions (on the RMX) and they do indeed have good grip. However, the sidewall on them is flimsy in comparison, and they wear more rapidly. They are also significantly more expensive, for a tire that, IMO, isn't any better than the Nevegal by any stretch.

Good tires, yes, but I think you can get just as much tire with a better sidewall for less if money is of concern.

The Snycros BHT tires are good too. Great grip and they also have the butyl sidewall insert.

Have you ever tried Michellin? I would recommend a Mich. Comp16 as a good rear tire, esp. for winter months on the Shore. Good tire, but it comes at a price. Also available in a 2.5.

Intense makes great tires too, but they are costly. I'm not the expert on the Intense tires, IFO knows them well, as does Scottv.

You have many options Doc.

For the record...

My first bike was a Maxam hardtail.

I then had a 1998 Rocky Mtn Oxygen Race ht.

Then I had 2 Rocky RM-6's.

I also have a Brodie Evolution ht that I ride all the time and love.

I've only been on Norco big-bikes since 2001 when I got my first one, the 01 Team DH. I'm only on my 2nd Norco, my Team NS.

:P

 I surrender, I surrender! I knew 'lifelong' probably wasn't the right word...

Passionate / devoted / loyal would have been better. I just thought it was funny that someone who's spent the last couple of years on a Norco has (good) advice on tires for a Banshee. :)

I STILL have not seen a pic of your new bike.... I showed you my new bride, and what have I got in return from Stu?

I'm a huge supporter of the Michy 2.5". I run one in the rear in the winter, and dual 2.8" Michy's the rest of the year.

My wife's Chap has dual 2.5" Michy's on it - she loves them.
