I'm looking at a great deal on an '03, 4" travel Ellsworth Isis to use for a light freeride/trail bike. It looks like a Joker w/ an air shock. There's a 19" and a 21" available. I'm not familiar w/ Ellsworth's geometry and wonder if the 21" would feel like a bus. I'm 6'2. How do Ellsworth's sizes compare to other manufacturer's? Also, If I try to stay smooth on it (no flat landings) will I still kill this thing?

Yeah, I heard a lot of people broke those rears. I figure if I throw a Z1 freeride on this thing and just hit the small stuff I can make it last a while. I miss being able to throw a light bike around but don't miss the harshness of my P.3. When the hell are you getting a new bike?

Ask Zed if you can use his Turner when he steals his woman's Chappy!

I'd rather borrow the chap, but I am not much of a borrower. I still have to pay back for some of the other things I borrowed when I lost my bike.

Yeah Mt bikes have too much potential for getting fucked up when you borrow, especially when they cost as much as used cars to replace. I can't imagine living in or near Squamish w/ no bike. I'd even *gasp* give up beer to save up!

I live on the foot of Seymour, so its just as bad. Everytime i go to the store i see thousands of dollars worth of bikes.
i am cutting out a lot of things to save up, and beer unfortunately is one of them. AM coffee and going out for lunch are also on hiatus...thats about a hundred bucks a week.
still tokin' tho.

Yeah, I mean lets not get crazy! Sounds like your on the right track. Hopefully I'll see your new rig when I get back to Squam next Summer.

if you don't you'll see putty on a martyrdom like rampage. there is no way i can stay sane if i don't have a bike by then.

For God's sake, somebody buy Putty's drum kit. I don't want to see a 220 lb 6'-3 dude on a rampage next Summer!

be aware the Isis is a "lightned" version of the Joker which is a lightweght reeride bike to begin with....
if u use the Isis for anything other then XC, you'll be breaking that frame in short order...
that frame is DEF.not designed for freeride/drops of anykind...
but its your money...
p.s. those bike fits pretty small so at your size u want the 21" for sure...
good luck...

looks identical to a joker just a diff shock position? Oh well, I'm weighing a couple of other options. One is such a good deal, I don't even wanna mention which bike it is cuz it'll be gone by the time I make a decision. It's a 5" travel 5th air, though and I'm wondering if the air can take some agro trail riding? I've already got a big rig for the "extreme" stuff.

while it might look identical, beleive me its made from "lighter weight" tubing and not build to withstand FR abuse...
but feel free to find out on your own...:(
I'd be wary. Isis and Joker are very similar. I know a guy who broke his Isis riding XC only, was warrantied up to a Joker frame (with the shock mounting holes for 6" mode cut off), and broke that riding XC. Not sure what ellsworth is doing for frame #3. He lives in the flatlands out east, so it's not like he was super hard on the bike.

Yeah, I've heard enough about the Joker/Isis to turn me off. I went w/ a "no name" Weyless XP from Supergo instead. $200 cheaper and it comes w/ a 5th air.
