SO.

There has been a rash of threads lately where people are too lazy or 'dont know how' to resize their pictures for posting on the internet.

WELL HERES THE FRICKIN 411 ON THAT:

1. You probably need a program to resize your photos. Download one here : http://www.tucows.com/preview/194967.html. (851 kb : thats small and quick)

2. Install the program.
tricky bits : unclick the ebay bullshit options in the first page of the install. DONT register any file extensions with the program (3rd window in).

3. Fire up IRFANVIEW

4. Drag and drop your file you want to post. Now, click "Control R" to resize the image. You will want to get the width BELOW 800 pixels (for landscape oriented photos), while ensuring the "PRESERVE ASPECT RATIO" box is clicked in the lower right hand corner. If its not a landscape oriented photo, change the height to around 600 pixels.

5. save it to a new file on the desktop. upload that one to the board or however you get your stuff on the net.

6. savour the enjoyment of not f'in up the formatting of the forums and realize that 85% of the people say FUCKIT if your photos are giant and require a bunch of scrolling and assorted monkey motion to view them unless you are Sterling Lorence.

OK?
ok.

goodnight.

The easiest way if you have XP, is to download the resizer powertool. After installing it, just right click on the picture and choose resize, it makes a copy of the picture to the specified size.

because:

a) they don't fit within normally sized browser windows
b) not everyone runs 1600x1200
c) most unresized pictures taken with non-dSLR cameras look horrible at 100%

Coop does, but you had better resize them first, he might get a little agitated

It's a bit of a piss off when you can't even see the whole picture all at once. It's hard to tell what the rider is doing if you can't see much without scrolling. I agree that people should start doing that.

Big pics arent that bad but that RM7 pic pretty much all you can see is the 7. It would be nice to have it scaled down abit

I had a rant about people posting monster pics but accidenally closed it before hitting the post button.
I resized the rm7 pic later in the said post too.

I agree to a certain extent:P

Seeing it all on one page would be nice.....but the quality usually isnt the same as in bigger pics

Sweet. Nothing more annoying than spending 2 minutes downloading a pic and only being able to see the rear hub because the image is 4080x1950.

According to various web stats sites, users with 800x600 are by far the largest majority. Only 10% of web users can view anything larger than 1024x768.

If you post pictures for us to look at, it helps if we can see the whole thing. Otherwise, we might think your crowd shot is a macro shot of some zipper.

visitors to my site (http://extremetracking.com/open;sys?login=spikydog) must be especially cool/rich then :D :

41% 1024x768 (15" monitors, roughly)
32% 1280x1024 (17" LCD size)
9% 800x600 (15" monitors at low res or smaller monitors)
8% 1600x1200 (20" LCD/CRT types)
+others to fill out to 100%

i think visitors to nsmb would also be on the upper end... however large (>800pixels in the long dimension) pics are still a nuisance. and my original point still stands, that unresized pics from point and shoot digitals look horrible.

I find its best to include something like 640x480 then link it to fullsize. Thats what I do on my gallery, I modded it to spit out the code for that in vb code and html.

Thanks for the intelligent response.
Here's a tip:
READ > COMPREHEND > REPLY (IF NECESSARY AND YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO ADD TO THE DISCOURSE)

So, I take the time to post an informative thread trying to help the forums become a better place, and I'm lazy and bitter? I might seem bitter to you, but thats only because you're used to being in the sights of people like me who are trying to HELP the LAZY, IGNORANT OR UNINFORMED with their situation. If you want to cop an "its all good" attitude, thats fine with me, just dont try to interfere with the people trying to IMPROVE. Dipshit.

Oh geez, this guy just doesnt get it does he Jaysin?! Photos are better when you have to move your face around in front of them in order to see the entire thing!! Thats how all the great art galleries of the world are set up, you look at them through a pair of reversed frickin binoculars and scan it in a couiple square inches at a time.

This thread is really close to being nuked.

Coop is delivering helpful advice that helps everyone. If you have a smart ass comment or need to use this as an outlet to vent your pre-teen sexual tension, save it for another website.

One more "smart" comment and this one is done...More good info lost thanks to the hands of the bulletin board.

Fair enough Corey. Was trying to Imply that not everybody has the technology, or time available to do this resizing.

Quite frankly, the next time I post a thread with big pictures on it, I dont want to be bashed to hell because my pics are way too big, all because I dont have the computer, nor the program to resize the pics.

Sorry about the ignorant comments:)

As to you Coop.

Coop, relax. I'm sure Jay wasn't trying to be a prick. Honestly, some guys have crappy computers, others guys like me just have crappy computer skills. ;)
