Hey all, as I have based most of my riding in Vic and sooke, I have not really been up island. What shops areup island, also are there any shops on the little islands? When I get the bike build I would love to check out some of the local riding, I hear gold river is amazing....but what other places would you recomend hitting?

OakBay bikes and Chain Chain Chain would be the best in vic. Courtenay has lots of good shops. None of the shops there suck.

Russ Hayes has the best inventory of bikes and parts but they know nothing about bikes haha. Their mechanics suck ass. My friend got his yearly free tuneup and they charged him $50 for it. Also, when my brother was making the chainguides, he sold one to a kid and he took it to Russ Hayes to put it on. They took his bike upstairs, came down 20 minutes later and said it cant be put on haha. The kid took it to my brother and he put it on in lke 5 mins.
I personally hate bike shops. They are all cocksuckers. I usually buy parts online and do my repairs myself.

Yeah russ hays and riders has the most inventory. Have you seen the basement in riders....so much outdated stock its not funny. They should have a huge sale and get rid of that overhead, but what do I know eh. The guys at north park are pretty cool too. I used to be a huge fan of westshore bikes..but I went in there when I moved back and just did not feel it....oh well. Lorien is rocking it out in sooke...great little shop out there, stop by if you are riding that neck of the woods.

Urban Lemming in Campbell River just joined with Strathcona outfitters - they've got a nice new shop.
Dodge City Cycles - cumberland
Mountain City Cycles - Courtenay
The Bike Shed - Port McNeill
That's where I spend my money... spread the love around...

Dodge City Cycles - cumberland
Went there almost every day last year while at Mt.Washington because my brother kept breaking his HT. They never charged him for work, but then when my break needed to be bleeded I had to pay for work... But they will usally fix your bike right on the spot, which is great. They carrie Balfas, .243, and someothers, I think.

Westshore went under. I saw it coming. For starters they lost all of their good management (hence the not feeling it). You could walk in there, look around for 20 minutes and walk out with out a single asking you what's up, or if they can help you.
It always sucks too see a shop go down. :(
p.s. Goldstream has the best labout prices, hands down.
Chain3 will quote you a nice labour price, but they mark all of their parts up. They are all really nice dudes though.
I don't know why r3vo is so pissed with bike shops. Atleast it isn't like an auto shop where you constantly have to be worried about them rooking you.
p.p.s. North Park sucks for bikes and parts, but they seem like nice honest guys.
I don't mind Russ Hayes, but I would never get my bike repaired there.

Yeah, Mike left and when I went in there...it just did not feel the same, they had no stock and I felt really bad becuase I knew that they were not going to succeed. Too bad they had a really good thing going there for a while.....
Oh and if anyone can think of any more shops that are not listed here that would be great...thanks....

hahah right. honestly ive only gone to one shop and was treated with respect. and that was surrey bikezone. all other have either treated me like i was nothing cuz i didnt drop the big bucks down or just completely ignored me all together.
now i buy from the cheapest place and do it myself. if i cant do it myself im going to the bikezone.
i remember last time i was in JH and i was there fro 25 minutes trying pads on to see what i liked and not one single person came up to me and asked if i needed help.

Check out Sooke Cycles if you are near there, Lorien is a great guy.
Experienced in Duncan is a good shop, good selection and staff.
The Realm in Nanaimo is great, Bill is a super good guy.
Cutting Edge in Port Alberni is great if you are out that way.
Courtney/Comox has lot's of good shops, Simons Cycles and Mike's Bikes to name a couple. Dodge City Cycles in Cumberland is good too.
Campbell River has a new shop called Big Island Cycles, been open for a couple of weeks now, definately worth checking them out.
The Bike Shed in Port McNeil, Blair seems pretty nice as well.
I won't get into listing Victoria shops, there are too many to talk about.

They probably just didn't want to deal with the piece of crap cause they didn't want to be responsible when it didn't work. Trust me the guys at Russ Hayes ( or nearly ANY mechanic in town) have forgotten more about bikes than you actually know.

I could work at a shop as a mechanic if I wanted to. Maybe you shouldnt judge a book by it's cover. I have put countless bikes together as well as fixed and put new bearings in like all my parts. I also have my own little machine shop to do anything in my garage.
And would you be happy paying $50 for your free tuneup with no call to tell you what needs to be fixed? Maybe I forgot to say that they didnt call my friend but how happy would you be to show up to pick up your bike and have to pay:rolleyes:

Russ Hays is looking for a new mechanic. Try your luck kid?
You could use a good dose of reality Geoff.

Change your OWN bearings. Wow your ready for the big time!
I repeat: Trust me the guys at Russ Hayes ( or nearly ANY mechanic in town) have forgotten more about bikes than you actually know.
The only "book" of yours I have to judge is the crap you've been spewing on this board for 3+ years.

No, Urban Lemming is now part of Island Mtn Sports, it was bought by the Strathcona Outfitters guys and then they built a competely new store at 1980 Island Hwy, it is now an "outdoors" store, with a bike department.
Big Island Cycles is 1661 Island Hwy, Rob who used to work for Spokes and then Norco, owns the store.

I am not really interested in the shop politics, just names and phone #'s if you have them. Please refrain from bashing the shops in this thread. Thank You.
