Hello members of the board! I just needed a quick opinion from the elderly full of wisdom riders on the board. I was approached from a selling his 2003 Norco Team Race (Nice Red Colour) for 2700 CAD + shipping. (~80CAD), the detailed specs are as follows...

8 inches of rear travel (just tuned Fox vanilla RC shock)
Hayes HFX-MAG HD 8 inches disc brakes
brand new XT rear derailer,
Black Spire chain guide,
Intense Mag-30 rims,
Hadley 20mm front hub,
Hadley 12 mm rear hub,
XT bottom bracket,
9 speed XT cog,
Black Spire badger DH cranks,
XT shifter,
Rockshock BOXXER TEAM (just tuned, new seals),
Funn Serial Killer stem,
Easton Monkey Bar EA 70,
Intense Lock-On grips,
Black Spire head set,
Intense DH tires,
brand new clips pedals.

Its a size small which is perfect for me (5'10"). I just need some quick pros and cons from the board. Maybe if you own a similar bike, let me know what you think. Thanks!

I have the 2003 Team Shore and it has been the best bike I've owned so far (from a decent list of bikes too).

Defineatley a solid bike, rides well in all situations. I've done endless Whistler days, Sun Peaks, North SHore and even built it with a double chainring to do a 10 day Moab, Utah trip where we climbed for hours each day.

Give 'er!

Thanks for quick replies, I had two bikes in my head when it came to DH bikes, one was the Norco the other was the Cove Peeler. The Norco came along first so I am thinking of taking a plunge into it. The key question, would be whether price is right? cause the bike is located in the east coast and all I can see is pictures :(

price is to high for a used bike....

its got nice parts and is a solid ride, but the price point doesnt justify....

i'd pass unless you can work the price lower...

$2700 is the asking price...

If you could get it for $2500 I'd say you got a good deal. It is a high quality build...dual Hadleys! IFO "El Bike Whore Extraordinaire" should have picked up on that one!

you'll notice i didnt say NOT to buy...

thers no question its a fine bike and worthy of purchasing... just not at 2700$....

used gear is used gear, no matter how pimp it was when NEW....

The parts are very :thepimp: and its a newer model 2003, so it make it very attractive. The bike would have been $5000+ new so the $2500 (50% off) or lower for used should be about right like Corey said. You think $2500 is cool IFO?

Also, anyone know whats the best way to do this transaction? If anyone has any experience buying private from the the east coast or US, please let me know how the payment was setup to be safe. Thanks.

I think you just do COD shipping. it's safe on both ends. you don't get the bike until you pay the post office. and they make sure it is real money and not a scam for the person on the other end

That bike was only sold as frame and fork (Shiver fork) from Norco. There a few new ones still around for $2500-$2700 for the frame, fork, rear hub & headset. If you can get the complete bike for around that, I'd say it's a fairly good deal as long as it's in good condition.

I just bought the frame only and I'm ecstatic about it. I had a Bullit previous to this and and after riding it for a month and a bit now, I'd never go back to a single pivot. It does everything better than the Bullit for me.

I'm 5'10" and I have a medium, but that's just personal choice. Go and sit on a Shore somewhere and see how it fits.

Just make sure it's all in good shape.

And just cause I like to show it off.....

on something like this, I'd set up a paypal account. you pay paypal, he ships the frame, you recieve it and get to check it over, you tell paypal it's alright, and the guy gets paid.

pretty safe

i'd be pretty sketch about buying a used FS from the East coast if your on the West cost...

in fact i'd pass...

2500$ bling is alot of coinage to have "gone missing"...

its not like u cant find a used VPS here....:D

The peeler is way out of range compared to the Norco Team Race. If I could find one priced similarly, it would be in the garage.

To Biker Kid...how do you do that paypal transaction that you mentioned. Is there a certain name to that type of transaction? Usually I just send money and thats it, there's no confirmation of any sort that package has been received.

I must agree with you IFO, its a quite a bit of coin to be throwing around for something I can't touch and feel. This is why I need some advice from the wiser senior Jedi like yourself. I have managed to talk him down to $2500 plus $80 for shipping, but I still have doubts because he is so far away :( Anyone else wanna throw in their 2 cents on their experience on long distance transactions?

If you use an escrow service like paypal, you negotiate a period of time that you are allowed to examine the product before the transaction is finalized. I wouldn't be sending cash to the opposite side the country.

find something local buddy...

there can be a number of things wrong with a used bike u cant see right away when purchasing "sight unseen"...

u'd def. want the chance to examine then ride the bike in question, before ANY cash was traded...

and i doubt the guy would send his bike away unpaid for...

basicly i cant see how a deal of this size can be doen safely for both parties...

which is why i'd NEVER buy a bike from outa town....

but thts just me....

I bought my frame/shock from texas but it hadnt been built up so I fealt a bit safer, and I couldnt have been happier. I had him fax me his driversliscence and then sent the check by registered mail. That way he had to sign for it to get the $$. Just another way of tracking the transaction if it should go wrong. Ifo's right though, there are alot of bikes out here on the west coast to chose from if your not in a hurry.

Buy a new 04 A Line for $2799 from Caps.
Same frame, full warranty, and it comes with the Propedal RC.
Build not as nice, but it's new and local. If you don't like the 888, sell it on.

Edit>Just checked and it's not the same frame as the Team Race, it's the same as the 2003 Team Shore (but with little extras like ISCG mounts) Still a great deal though! (check Corey's review of the frame)

good choice on the bike, but why go used bike shopping East coast when you live in the freeride capitol of the planet?

I wanna thank you all for the help so far, but the drama continues to build, how does $2380 CAD shipped sound? I know its from the East (which is my biggest problem). Lets see if this changes anyone's mind...

My bud just picked up Trevor Porter's "slightly used" Peeler for $2800.

Just a note to the two posters who said otherwise....PayPal is not an escrow service. They just take money and deliver it. They don't care if you get your product or not!

If you havent seen the bike....dont even bother man.

VPS' are good bikes but lose value significanlty once they are off the showroom. For the $....you get some good stuff and a quality ride. Buy one locally

i sold my 2002 Norco Team DH w/ a 2003 Boxxer Team, double tracks, all raceface stuff, etc. for 2250$ at the beginning of last summer... If you can get him in the price range of like 2300-2500 then ur set, 2700 is a bit much imo....you will definetly like the norco, but the coves amazing as well!
