View Full Version : Looking For Good Bike Gloves

Hi

It's looking like I'll need to buy some bike gloves in the next little while, and I thought I'd ask if anyone here has any suggestions.

Basically, I'm looking for something that combines durability with comfort, and doesn't look like I got lost looking for the motorcross track. Or do I need to acknowledge the fact that bike gloves are disposable and nothing will really last all that long?

Older Fox Static Golves are rad rad rad. So many people I know have them. One that they still make that are nice are the Dirtpaws. I really like the feel of Specialized Enduro gloves aswell.

I have been using a pair of Da Kine Cross X gloves for snowboarding, and now biking, since sometime in January, and I'm really happy with them.

I tried a couple pairs of mace but they popped apart on the drive home from the bike shop, I think the consensus is pass on them.

Answer racing makes the best gloves...

their MX gloves last for ever and dotn cost alot...

i really like the Specialized gloves, cuz of the Ulnar padding they offer... not everyone likes that padding, but i find it really helps ....

Coop got unlucky. Mace MX gloves are great for the price: I've got over a year on mine, and they're only now getting unhappy. How can you go wrong for $25?

I consider bike gloves disposable, and try to find the most reasonably priced gloves. So far, I have been really happy with the durability of my Dirtpaws. There were issues with the Dirtpaws separating between index finger and thumb in the past, but I think Fox has remedied that. And to support IFO's comment, my backup pair of gloves are Answers, that have to be close to 10 years old, and they only have a worn out elastic wrist closure...every glove I have bought since then have been trashed beyond usable.

try motorcycle shops - i picked up a pair of TRD gloves for $25. i use those and RF gloves. beware the cheap $20 gloves from Overtime, they turned my hands black.

Depends on what you are looking for.

The Dakine Gloves are awesome, and comfy. I just got a pair of the Cross X ones. Of course the NSMB team is sponsored by Dakine, I should mention that.

Up until yesterday I have been riding Dianese Gloves with Carbon knuckles...the manufacturing was medeocre but I have thrashed them pretty well and they are still useable (although just barely).

Oakleys are pretty comfy, have good protection (With carbon) but are not cheap at all.

Check ou tthe Dakines though, good value and well made.

I bought a pair of the raceface ones a while ago and they fell apart pretty quickly so I wasn't too impressed. I like them because they have a low cut adn don't reallyextend pass my hands but like I said they are pretty thrashed. I then bought a pair of answers they have held up for along time and still look new so I am happy.

How long do the Oakley's usually last? are they well made? I was looking at a pair but I'm not sure if it's worth it.

the best gloves I've found are the MEC full fingers. They are identicle (I think made in the same factory) as fox sindwinders. The only difference in one pad.
The reason for getting these, is they're $30. They're the best gloves I've used. I ride damn hard sometimes crash hard as well, they have lasted last 2 seasons so far, and might make it through this one. (a few holes have begun).

Mountain Equiptment Co-op gloves are the bomb

I use Ringer's mechanics gloves. My last 2 pairs lasted 7 years. They have great padding on the palm, and are designed to be used in solvent - so the threading is tight. Cost $30 per pair. I just finally got 2 new pairs.

I love my fox static wrap arounds... have held up pretty good over the last year or so... neoprene rubs off, but thats to be expected... they've seen abuse. No big tears or seperations (unlike other gloves i've had) and the terry cloth snot rag thumb 0wnz :D Wrap arounds offer great stabilityfor my wrists

I bought a set of gloves there, but haven't had that problem. Must be a different model. Mine are labbelled something like "Static".

I have a couple of sets of old RF DH gloves I bought at their parking lot sale years ago. They lasted for years.

I got a set of Fox Sidewinders as a gift and they started coming apart on the first wash. Exchanged them tried another set, same problem. I've reparied them, but won't be buying another pair.

Old MEC gloves seem to last okay.

Recently bought a set of cheap Fox Digit, the back pads started coming off after the first wash.

Recently bought a set of cheap 661. So far so good.

If you look at the labels inside the gloves, most gloves are probably made in the same few factories, under contract from a more famous bike company.

I have been using the MPactII from Mechanicx for the last year and half.

last three pairs I have burned the leather through at the thumb/palm in about 6months. They come with a 1 year warrenty. My next set is gonna come from a MX store.

I been using MEC gloves,i think most every glove is probably made in tiawan anyhow and they all fall apart or wear thru just get something around 30$ on sale.I think of them as disposable items

With bike and x-country ski gloves I get wear spots when the rest of the glove is still good.I use shoo goo or aqua seal squeegeed into THIN layers ,it makes gloves last longer,it will fill holes/wear spots and even hold together seams if you tape the seam together till it drys.If you see a wear spot re-enforce it before it wears thru.

Works better than ductape I would say you can double the life of a glove this way, it DOES look kinda ghetto

Reinforced, long lasting, snug velcro fit, breathable, washable, terry thumb/forfinger, no glam product name so the price stays low. what more do you need? check out the general utilities and the heavy utilities. http://www.iclad.com/ironclad/gloves.html

IMO they are worth it. Mine are on their second season and still look mint. I really like the carbon protection on the knuckles too.

I take that back, one of the seams is coming apart now. Have to sew it up before the glove comes apart completely.
