I have a 2003 bullit and have lately been thinking if a floating rear brake would be a good investment. I ride whistler a lot and was wondering if anyone had tried one and how it made a difference. Thanks

i bet it would make a difference, but i doubt its worth your hard earned cash... for the price and the added weight i cant see the minute difference in your braking making any sort of difference. try playing with some adjustments on your shock instead. on my 01 with the RC the brake jack is hardly noticible, to non existant... ive never had a fifth though, so i woudlnt know what direction to point you in there...

I didn't think my Bullit experienced brake jack at all until I bought a new bike with FSR linkage. I'd never go back.

Interesting product.....has gotten mixed reviews wherever you look.....seems to make good sense in theory which is borne out in the addition of a floater option on the V10. I think the difference here is that the SC floater doesn't require a specific hub like the Brake Therapy (BT) which requires a Hadley or a Hugi hub and the SC floater is considerably lighter. Even with this if you go to some BC Cup downhill races you will see guys riding V10's without floaters. I've inquired about this (as I want a V10) and the ones not running them say the did this for the weight savings and they didn't think that it added significantly to the performance (note "significantly"). In a review I read of the BT floater, some world ranked downhillers said that they didn't think the product had improved the ride enough to warrant the weight penalty (and these were guys that were getting them for free). At the end of this test not one of the downhillers chose to use the product.
So.....seems that it does work but perhaps the performance improvements might be overstated (one will not know without buying it and trying it yourself, will one). It is heavy and pricey and you can add to this price the cost of a new hub if you don't have a Hadley or a Hugi.
If someone wanted to give me one, or it wasn't so pricey, I might actually give one a whirl.

I read in a bike mag that the Giant DH racers were using BT on theres and they noticed a considerable difference even though they were skeptical at first. Its really dependant if you want to add that extra pound or 2 and waste your money or save weight and money yet your times might be slow, its give and take. A bike with 7+ travel that is more affected by its rear wheel path and breake jack I'd say should have floaters.
Giant DH's have amazingly plush travel and I would definately want to try on with and without a floater, I hope they come stock for 2005 with floaters, but I'm not sure how affected the rear suspenion is to brake jack.

That is my old Bullit. I have the floating brake on my new Bullit. Let me know if you have any questions.
I think we need more people who haven't ridden a bike with a floating brake to tell us how the bike rides with them.
Pic of the bike from last year, quite a few changes since then.
