Does anyone know a good brand of fork oil to use for a Boxxer when buying from a motorcycle shop? I hear some type can cause problems which I think I am encountering right now.

Bel Ray is decent. Golden Spectro is good. Those are the two brands I am familiar with.

You want fork oil for "cartridge style" forks, which is what you have. Look for some mention of no seal swellers, and no foaming action.

I used Bel Ray in my Boxxers with no problems

I've used all of those mentioned above, as well as "PJ1".

The MX shops tell me fork oil with seal sweller in them is uncommon now.

I have used the actual Rockshox brand fork oil.....it is pricey but if you really, really like red coloured fork oil, don't spare the expense. Otherwise I have always used Bel Ray as it is available in any motorcycle shop and is cheap. It works well. I have heard that Golden Spectro is a very good oil (this is the one that Angry Asian is always on about) but really, could any of us really tell the performance difference inherent in one high performance oil over another? I don't think I can but then again I am a hack.

I use Bel Ray.. 10wt in compression, 20wt in rebound. This is on a 02 boxxer with the compression cartridge drilled out. Amazing fork now..

don't mean to jack the thread off topic, but do you have a description of how to drill out the cartridge????? Is this what is called the "Romic Fix"?

Sure.. Ill quickly explain it then shoot you a link.

First, take apart the compression side of fork (Disc side im pretty sure). Take out the stanction and get out the C-clip on the bottom. There is a peice with 4 holes in in, drill 8 more holes in it (drill from backside to front). Re-install with 10wt out and that is it.

Its also explained very well in here:
