what did the guy do?
just sit there, while the guy was taking off his car?
You can see how it could happen pretty quick. your sitting in your car and a thug grabs your bike on a rear rack and is gone. I bet it was ripped off in a matter of seconds.

yea...after you look to see what is happening, then you undo your seat belt open the door and get out it could easily be gone if it was just one of those racks with the two arms you set your bike on.

...hit reverse...hard?
If it is true we should be locking our bikes up on our racks. If the guy got away with it once there is a good chance he might try it again.

I could see it being a problem for those who just throw them in the back of their truck with the front wheel over the gate...

Even just a bungee cord wrapped around your ride....it'll give you precious seconds to react.:(

Allways keep your baby locked , mine is chained through the car frame when its on the rack .....always . Like I tell my 12 year old when he takes my rig " If you come home with out it , you better be wounded from the struggle or you won't ever see your $1.00 a week allowance for the next hundred years. Do the math.

my bike is impossible to yank from my rack in seconds, if anyone tried they would be seeing the bright white light for real

I think Mulletron has the right idea - throw it into reverse and lay a smoking black strip over the guy before he even gets it fully off the rack.
No, that would be manslaughter and I don't condone that. But you probably could knock someone down without driving over them, or you could pin them to the car behind (and use their now-crushed knees as cushioning so that there is no car damage to repair).
Seriously, how soon is someone gonna get jacked on the trail? This is getting bad.
