In the same boat as you Pepe.
Have been on the phone and getting quotes from all sort of insurance brokers. So far I have noticed that the rates are fairly similar (within 100$) but some companies were offering a much lower deductible payment.
For a comprehensive, tenant insurance for $30,000 + ryder insurance for a bike valued at 4500, was looking at a annual fee of $700ish and that was without discounts for alarm, "golden age", claim free record.
My inclination is to go with one of the bigger, more reputable companies like ING or BCAA.

Good luck.
Keep me informed is you stumble upon a killer deal on insurance. ;)

I would really look into what you deductible and insurance costs will be like after you make a claim and more importantly two. Although I didnt have my bike stolen I did have a break in this year bottom line was after two claims you can really get screwed over the long run.

personaly I have decided to spend my money on theft prevention instead.

My insurance charges $5/$100 of bike value. Deductible is $100.

My regular homeowners insurance would only cover up to $1000, so i think i'm going to go for it.

I'm guessing replacement value of my bike is around $3500 - $4000, so i'm looking at @ $200 for the rider.

Worth it?

Too bad they don't have crash replacement insurance :P

Johnston Meiers (sp?) on Broadway has the best rates and are supposedly good to deal with if something happens. They charge 3$ / $100 if you have your home insurance with them as well. LeeLau will back me up on this one. ;)

No matter how hard I try, I have never found a good company, so my advice is to invest in a good lock and to just lock your bike up (not necessairly to something, but just even the wheels to the frame or something). Damn the arseholes that steal others' bikes!!!

Exactly. I went and bought a Harley Davidson lock $300. It weighs 10 pounds, hardened steel, pick proof lock, etc loops through wheels and frames of all my bikes. Good luck getting it off.

604 736-4574 - talk to Evelyn or Janice. Always get someone on the phone and not voice mail. They know their stuff and really seem to care. When my parents got ripped off they had the check for insurance for them so fast it wasn't funny

Get a quote from Meloche Monnex www.melochemonnex.com
They are based in Calgary, but there is no value limit to bicycles under your house insurance plan (I triple checked on that) so you don't need to schedule the bike seperately. Most regular house insurance plans have a $500 limit on bike value.
Even so, when I first got my policy with them I had a $1k deductable (since gone down to $500), so I scheduled my bike seperately and it was only $77 for the year, insured for $3k with a $25 deductable. Best deal I could find.

They are also one of the few companies that will insure you if you live with roommates that aren't related to you.

I haven't made a claim with them yet, so I can't comment on how they handle that. They are part of TD Bank.
