You just gotta love these dusty trail conditions while they last.

Pick the month and the day of which you think BC Forests and the Municipalities will close access to trails and the backcountry for the rest of the summer.

Winner gets a used Panaracer Dart 1.9 and some extra links outta my old chain.

If there's no significant rain from now until mid July, I'd say by the end of July, Whistler will be the only show in the lower mainland (maybe sunpeaks too).

No kidding, this thread is depressing. Don't forget when they shut down the back country it puts thousands of people out of work which means the taxes stop rolling in. This isn't a decision that gets made lightly.

ehhh, after the next wildfire that starts?

if the liloet fire gets worse, maybe that will help with the closing decision.

Trails burnt, villages destroyed all the shit that follows sux.

From the fires I read about last year most of these could have been stopped if it wasn't for stupid people chucking Cigarettes out the window or dropping them by the new dish installation.

So just like if you saw someone stealing a bike or saw a stolen bike, react fast. If someone is throwing a cigarette out the window, LET THEM KNOW HOW FN STUPID THEY ARE! IT could save a trail.

I hope you don't miss ANY days ridin Boys and Girls!

I think that this is just a normal/ natural earth warming and cooling phase (whishful thinking). It happened in the past that the earth got really cold and then got really hot. Mabe the greenhouse gasses are helping a bit but they aren't doing it all.

Question from a Californian who's planning on visiting in July:

If the trails in the lower Mainland get closed down, are there any areas that are more likely to remain open? In other words, are there any alternatives (other than Whistler, which I plan on going to for at least a few days) that I should consider if things start looking grim?

What about the Sunshine Coast? I've never ridden there and it looks like fun, but I assume that might get shut down too?

Thanks for any info.

Scott

Bryce

yes, the sunshine coast stays open a little longer, so does Sun Peaks (in Kamloops roughly) and Vancouver Island. There is lift access on the island at Mt Washington. You can also ride in Washington, I don't think they had any closures last year, but its mostly XC
