View Full Version : ideas 4 a Flowshow at a local Xc race
Hi everybody.
attached are sketches of a flowshow I want to make at a local xc race.
the idea is to let the general public PARTICIPATE in the whole thing. and not only a show in the Flowriders sense.
Parallel to riding and talking i want to give the people some background info on stunts, north shore type of riding and the like. that the basic idea is not about risking your life (as is often thought in germany), but rather that it is a way of preserving trails ( as posted on nsmba's site)
I hope that by this i will get the local ministries to accept the wooden strutcure as a means of enhancing "fun" and environmental issues - since this is a big topic, similar to the states and canada.
The stunts will be mostly paid for by the ministry of sports of my hometown. :D
I have a sketch with views from above, but no idea how 2 upload this image.

Well, it sounds like you need two sets of structures since you're aiming at two opposite sides of the pole.
For general participation, you needs structures that have a low penalty factor: low to the ground, wide, non-technical.
For the "show" factor, you need the direct opposite: high off the ground, skinny, and technical.

Also, please consider consolidating the two threads.;)
Indeed. I will try and built two kinds of structures: the sketches for the folks and a 2-3 mtrs. high one for me and the boys (two more at the moment).
It will be difficult to built a high structure though, since we have paragraphs which state a certain height should not be built/ridden at a public event if no suitable padding/foam and the like is provided. This i was told at the first meetings....so much for german bureaucracy.

Gotta have the waivers ready for everyone to sign, and this might just help you convince the folks in the political seats that you thought about the safety. If they want some sort of padding just use hay bails under all the structures.
Also, please don't show these plans to the town. Make em to some sort of scale so they actually know what your plans are. To me it is kinda difficult to tell what your plans consist of, but there is a discombobulater ;)
Are you planning on getting your show sponsored so that someone pays for the wood? Is this going to be torn down after the show? Are you charging to use it? Where is the XC event?
Oh, planning events is fun but a tonne of work EH!
ps. the Ride to the Lake is coming along fine so Mic I hope to see you there in September!
Ok. Lets see....
I will try and answer the questions:
1) I have known the guys from the department for ages and they know me. Scale-wise: The original sketch is on paper about DINA4 large, ahh, 20 cm long i guess
2) They have plans for helping financially, ie buying/providing the money so i can get the beams, the topping so to speak i can get from a local factory
3) The idea is to be able to built it so we can use it again
4) Straw is a good idea, but then again, there seem to be restrictions on the material used (thats what i was told). have 2 check it myself
5) I am not going to charge, since the idea is to get the public use it at the event.
6) The event is in a small town in germany.
Oh, and sorry, but i won't be able to come to the Ride to the Lake.
Would really like to, but hell, no, can't afford the trip at the moment.
Busy preparing my final exams and after that trying to get a job as a teacher in BC after i have finished the two-year apprenticeship as a teacher over here in germany.
Oh. Forgot.
7) there will be signs stating that one is only allowed to use it when signing a form in which the person responsible for the structures will not be liable in any form and that they wear proper safety equipment (at least helmet and gloves)

I know, but i cannot afford equipping every rider with armour.
the structures will be designed very low to the ground (up to 1 mtr highest) to make sure that injuries will not very likely occur.
