I'm planning a three week trip to BC in mid July. I'm definitely going to spend some time in Squamish and Whistler, but I also want to ride a lot in Vancouver. Last year when I was up there I camped in Squamish and just drove to Van to ride. Is there any place closer to Vancouver (or in Vancouver) to camp that's not ridiculously expensive? All of the places I could find online are RV parks that charge around$25/night. Any Vancouver residents wanna charge me $5 a night to set up a tent in their backyard?
Thanks for any info anyone has.

i don't know of any campgrounds on the north shore. you're welcome to camp in my backyard at the bottom of fromme. :) you can even practise skinnies and drops.
there should be some campgrounds out towards vedder for sure, and probably some close to woodlot/burke/eagle if you are planning on riding there.
well ridden

theres a shatty trailer park in port moody
There is a camp site at Porteau Cove just north of Lions Bay. May be a bit further out than you wanted but it still fairly close to the shore and to Squamish.

rolley lake is about 10 mins to the woodlot, 20-30 mins to eagle ridge and not much more then that to the shore. camping fees range from $9-22 per night.

in the general area of maple ridge there is also golden ears campgrounds located by Alouette lake(3 campgrounds actually) which also has nice hikes and swimming.
a link to 3 different campgrounds all located in the general area.

The funny thing about Stanley Park is that there are sumthing like 50 or so full-time "residents" that live in there

I'd go for this option if I were you.
