Does anyone know if we will be have the same restrictions and closures as last summer on the local lower mainland mountains. I keep hearing reports that conditions in certain areas are worse then last year.

Well, we just got a week or so of rain, so it's not going to be happening right away. However, it looks like the overall conditions are expected to be even drier than last year, so there's a good chance there will be closures again. It didn't happen until early August last year, did it?

ya, i hear that it is going to be really dry this summer. Lets jsut hope it rains once in a while to keep everything abit wet so there is no closures. We can expect closures thuogh from what i have heard

I am a firefighter and we are already having bans set out that fires are not aloud unless cooking fires...... so it won't be long I am thinking until it is really strict.

Too early to say. We still have a good snowpack up high, the ground is holding moisture, and the rivers are running well.

January and February were wetter this year than last, but March and April especially were very dry. No stats in the archive for May yet. June has been average.

I don't think it will be as big a problem as last year, but that's just me thinking positively. Nothing solid to base that on.

Of course, Intrawest could always bribe someone to close the Shore so we would all have to go to Whistler again....

(Shhhhh, It's all a conspirac------ack!)

News1130 said this morning to expect a cooler, or more 'average' summer this year. :D Crossing fingers for no closures, or to win a Whistler pass ;)

Anyone catch the severe "drought" newscast on BCTV yesterday at 6:00. 2 days of warm weather and suddenly they're cranking up the alarm.
I'd have a lot more respect for the local media if they didn't always take a drastic alarmist angle on these things...

Advice: don't get a subscription to the Province...

the unfortunate thing is now thetre is a precedent set ...i would almost expec t some closure ...hopefully not like last year...i just rode cbc this am...theres still standing water on it and pangor...the worst thing is its all driven by panic/sensationalized media outlets

i highly believe that backcountry bans will go into effect this year. last year they went in after the fact that we had fires raging out of control. look for the gov't to impose bans this year in a preventative sense so that fires dont get a chance to get started. last year was all reaction, i think this year they are gonna try and be one step ahead of the game.

we cannot afford to have a summer like last year. just think if what went on in kelowna happend here on the north shore. i live up near the top of the house line on the north shore and i sure as hell dont want to have to worry about a fire 2 blocks above us.

BCTV sold out.
Changed the name to Global...brought in "pro's" from the USA....still not as bad as actual US news programs...but ya...it's all about marketabilty now...and WHY?...they already have the news coverage monopolized....

About restrictions....I really feel that the most they'll do if conditions are VERY dry again is to restrict things like camp fires 100% and maybe restrict motorized vehicles to main gravel roads.
We could all live with that I'm sure.
Kamloops has just had the dampest past few weeks in a loooooong time....but a lot can change between now and Aug.
