i don't recall it ever sticking out that far but my buddy noticed it the other day. and now that i think of it i can hardly even reach it now with my index finger. it's only the rear brake but the front brake is still where it should be.
any thoughts?

What do you mean by "sticking out too far"? It has too much reach (too far away from the handlebar)? Most brake levers have a screw which adjusts the reach of the lever, so you can check that. Perhaps if you can provide details about what brakes and levers you are using, someone can provide further advice.

Most brakes have a lever reach adjustment. Just adjust it so the lever is where it feels most comfortable for you.
If you want more info, you'll have to provide more, like what type of brake lever you're talking about.

using stock Hayes that came with my 03 Launch. and yes sticking out too far as in too far from the handlebar. as for lever reach adjustment i didn't notice one when i looked earlier.
The reach adjustment screw is connecting the blade to the lever body somewhat. The lever pivots at one point then pushes the master cyclinder piston at another. You'll see it if you look along the lever blade from the side.

yup break out the 2mm.... common issue with Hayes 9's is the 2mm adjustement for lever reach... u pretty much have to adjust every ride :P

Not if you loc-tite it correctly! After many attempts to stop this screw from self-adjusting, I have finally used the loc-tite with success.

I bend my levers.
Don't be a pansy.

You know, it's amazing what you can find out when you have an Internet connection.

Look on page 16, and item #34 "Push Rod". The push rod is threaded into the lever, so when you screw the push rode in/out, it adjusts where the static lever position is.
i bet you simply bent the lever in a crash and didnt notice...
its unlikely the reach adjuster backed in....
they usually back out... and this makes the lever closer to teh bar not further out....
lever reach adjuster (little allen bolt) stripped maybe? Happened to a friend of mine.
