OK heres the deal... My 888 on the a-line is giving me trouble... the stantions are automaticlly sunk in about half an inch and when I lift up they give a jurk and the full length of travel is there... so every time I pull up I get this jerk that feels like the steer tube is loose in the head tube(which it is not)... I hoppe you guys can help me out... is this normal or not?

Its the oil levels there too low marz made them too fast n they didnt put enuff oil in em so your going to need to check all the bolts i doubt they have been greased... i just hope its not too late because i hear that they wont warrenty the internals if they break.. my friend had smae problem as you but fixxed it but the forks still dont go through travel smoothly like sticks at the 6inch mark...

you FINALLY got the a-line?

wicked. How's it ride besides the fork troubles?

p.s. my 03 Super T's do that a bit. Maybe a 1/4" of sag when no one is on them.

My '03 Z1 FR does that too. If the fork sits at the full 5" and I get on, I'll get about 1" of sag (which is usual). If I slowly get off, the fork will decompress about 1/2", so the fork still has 1/2" of sag even without a rider on it. I have to pull the lowers of the fork down to get it back at 5".

This is completely normal. If your fork didn't have any sag, it would be oversprung for you. Basically, if the fork doesn't respond to your weight alone on it, it won't be very sensitive on the trails.

Actually, from the sounds of it, your fork might even be oversprung for you. You should get about 1.5" of sag (20% of forks full travel), and when pulling up on the fork, it shouldn't rebound so fast that it "clunks". How much do you weigh? Perhaps you need to swap for a softer spring.

can a yamaha shop here adjust the oil for me? or would it not be like a motocross fork?

my friends do that,he took them into the shop and was told it was more or less normal :S
he has also had the oil replaced numerous times, and has the proper springs installed.
he's got around an inch of sag with hardly any weight on the front end,but it acts as negative travel i guess..if my bike was doing that i'd be wondering what the fuck was up.

Before you tinker with your fork, read this:

http://www.marzocchi.com/system/2604/2004-bomber-en.pdf

Section 5.1 - Preload

To make the most of the fork's travel, the sag given by the rider's weight must remain between 10% and 20% of the total travel length for the XC forks and between 20% and 30% for the DH forks
To reach these values, you will need to use the preload adjusters of the springs.
As mentioned by nearly everyone in this thread, sag is normal. You haven't addressed anyone else's posts other than GiMpY_jR*'s.

Section 4.1 - Problems - Diagnosis - Solutions

Problem: Fork has too much sag
Diagnosis: Spring rate too soft or fork oil too fluid
Solution:
1) Check oil height
2) Change to stiffer spring weight

From what you've described, your fork does not get enough sag. You should actually be getting about 2" of sag on the 888. I guess the solution would be the opposite of the one above: Change to a softer spring weight. I think that getting the correct amount of sag is the first step to solving your problem.

Problem: Fork extends too quickly; harsh top-oout after impacts
Diagnosis: Not enough rebound damping
Solution:
1) Increase rebound damping
2) Replace oil (SAE 7.5) with a higher viscosity

If you have the right amount of sag, and your fork still does this, then replace the oil.

Problem: Fork does not get full travel
Diagnosis: Spring rate too stiff or fork oil too high
Solution:
1) Check oil height
2) Get softer spring

Are you indeed getting all of your fork's travel, or at least close to all of it? If you're getting an less than 6-7" going as big as you can, then check your oil. From my experience, Marzocchi forks rarely come stock with more oil than necessary.

The wonders of an owner's manual....

Was a bit concerned about the performance of the 888RT's myself....but just got back from the 6th ride this morning and the fork is freakin amazing!! Took a while to break in but once the seals have been worked in, buttery-smooth-eight-inch-godess!!
Still waiting on the firmer springs, so currently running heavy oil with an increased level.
Give her some time...you will not be dissapointed. :)

Im quite happy with my 888RT. I get about 2 inches of sag....Wich is pretty normal for a DH fork. Mine has a bit of play at the very top, maybe 1cm of sag under the bikes weight, so im gonna be replacing the oil with some MOTUL after my exams are done. Its not stopping be from riding...

My shivers do that when I haven't burped then in a while. They top out hard. Once burped they return to uber smoothness. And the sag increases.

most of the people that are saying this is normal are talking with experiance from other forks I know for a fact that some 888's come from the factory with not enuff oil in em wethere yours does or not id still say to check em out... also mtb and dirtbike fork oil is the smae shit i bought my oil at a moto shop..... also you guys have alot of sag on your forks mine are supper plush but when im sitting on it there is maybe half an inch of sag when i stand and then push like 2-4inches..... but there is no weird jerking feeling when it comes out of the "sag" just to be safe immediatly go check this out and i say dont ride it till it is checked

also wow that did take you forever to get the damn thing

Sounds like your fork is topping out. The way to fix this would be increase rebound damping... which means increasing oil weight in the case of the RT.

Can anyone here tell me how to increase my oil wieght...? the marz owners manual has no info and neither does the site... I want instructions so I can do it myself... my dad doesnt think its that bad and he says just ride it untill the 30th when we go to the city... you guys think thats alright?

but ya some instructions would be greatly appreciated
