View Full Version : Goggles over glasses - recommendations?

I need glasses to ride, and cannot wear contacts. I have used Scotts (pinched my nose and took up too much room) and Axo. Axo were the ultimate, but unfortunately I have lost them and nobody sells them in Canada. Any recommendations?

Smith are good - I've used them for a few seasons. Adidas are supposed to be very nice - check out the review by JSinclair here. (http://www.nsmb.com/gear/adidas_yodai.php) .

To elaborate, I think at least Smith does RX goggles - there is always Oakley, too, but...expensive! Prescription sunglasses as an option?

Over-Glasses Aviator Goggles
The popular choice for riders who wear glasses. Goggles feature genuine black leather padded lining. Comes with adjustable strap and clear split lens with chrome-plated trim.

Well, I don't have the coin to spring for Rx inserts for goggles. So I just go out and try on goggles with my glasses on and see wht fits over my frames. There are some Oakley's that are designed for people like me. E-Frame I think. But I don't know if they have the rubber backing on the strap.

I wear either or, they both have there downsides...which r pritty much opposite of each other:
1) goggles fog easier...glasses dont(i.e. smaller surface)
2) goggles are tighter... glasses sometimes slip....

whistler i prefer goggles, but ns freeride stuff i like glasses more, different strokes for different folks....dh racing i dont know which one i would choose unless it was dry which would be goggles....racing in wet with goggles tend to fog extremely easily...

Probably cost more than getting laser eye surgery. :D

How big can the glasses be when wearing the aviator goggles? They look fairly big, but for riding with glasses I'd opt for big lenses and cheap/strong frame.

Last yr...I used my $40 ski goggles.
I now have some.....(hang on, I'll go check)....
Scott Turbo flows.....double lense.....$65 retail at a MX shop. BTW....they swapped in the lense color of my choice (clear) at no charge, and should be expected imho. I haven't bought many goggles, but I can imagine they could also say "take what it has and buy another lense if you prefer".

i too rock out with some oakley XX's with Rx lenses in them. when ridin, i usually just wear these, but i have worn my oakley Aframe snow goggles with good results. you do need a different strap to fit on a helmet, but i like them. they have ample space to fit my glasses, yet small enough for my azonic helmet. i suppose i am just a spoiled oakley kid.

I have always found the cheapest place for goggles ( I got a big head & big eyeglass frames) has been MEC

like 30$ for gordini double lense goggles ,sometimes they even have replacement lenses

they don't have snowsports gear up on their site cuz its summer ,if you can make it to MEC check it out

$2K for both eyes, or $1100 for one eye.

Laser eye stuff....still lookin at $2500-3000. All they did was seperate the fees. You can now go and get the main Op done...but you'll have about an $800 fee with your optician in pre-exams and follow ups....it used to be included.
BTW.....go and bargain shop for the guy with the best "sale price" or "coupon special"???? Not with MY eye's on the line, thx:eek:

My Uncle had his eyes done, he said he researched it a billion percent. He went to guy in Calgary who apparently has the longest and most perfect track record known. My Uncle is , of course, super satisfied:)
Also....my local optometrist has refered me to a place at the Coast where most of the Optometrists themselves go to....I don't recall exactly..but can dig up that info if anyone wants it...PM me.
