nope, we tried both ways ...
perhaps it is the starnut thats knackered...
have a close look at it if u can..
otherwise get a new FSA Pig...
messing with a ol headset isnt worth the hassle... new Pig is like 30$...

how would the starnut do anything though ?
he doesnt want a pig either, they weigh like 12.6 pounds
hhahah.... WOw thats a heavy headset...
its possible teh starnut threads are buggered... so they dont give the proper adjustment ability...
i dont really know for certain since i cant see your bike..
im just firing off possible causes !!!!
12.6 pounds, ahahah thats a good one...perhaps thats why mt BIGHIT weighs so much... and here i thought it was the tires and fork...

if Pig's are too heavy, get a Cane Creek S2

sounds like the crown race seal isn't seated properly, and is jamming things up.
the sela usually has a flat side, and a half dome shaped side with a notch along the inner circumfrence. this notch sits on the crown race, so make sure the notch and dome side of the seal are pointing down, and seated.
otherwise it with jam betwixt teh lower cup and crown race making the headset seem too tight.
also, the lower bearings point up, retainer side down, and visa-versa for the top.
peace

Sometimes when you put the bearings in upside down and then tighten them, you will crush them. It may have a small cup in the ball bearing ring holder - I would check for that. I buggered a headset once doing that - and then it did the same thing as you mentioned. It was either too tight or not tight enough.
