So I was just getting my 2003 Big Hit Expert ready for Killington today and I noticed something very bad. I was checking the drivetrain and noticed the hanger was bent, so i pulled it off and i went to put a new one on, but it wouldn't fit. The dropout was spread out so the space was too large and the hanger would not match up. About a week ago i noticed I had a really badly bent rear axle, so it looks like I know where the problem comes from.
Another problem is, I bought the frame used on Ridemonkey's Buy and sell, so I'm unsure whether I can get a Spec. warranty. What do I do?
I think I can get something together so I can ride today, but I'm not sure if I trust this thing, in the last 2 weeks I have had 1 bent axle, 1 bent profile spindle and now 1 bent big hit frame!

Specialized Warranty Statement (http://specialized.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/specialized.cfg/php/enduser/fattach_get.php?p_sid=h2n*QEch&p_tbl=9&p_id=1008&p_created=1076540830)
It says warranty is for original owners only. It's not really a warranty issue anyways as the damage is not a manufacturers defect. You might try for some type of crash replacement discount, but they really don't have to do anything for you.

That happened to mine, I just hit it with some wood till it was perfect again.
yeah sounds like u prolly gunna have to pony up for a replacement seat stay assembly...
u can try to "tap" the drop out area back to shape but you'll def. be making that area weaker... Alloy dont like to get bent...
while u could try to have your LBS warrenty it, i doubt you have much chance at it...
i did the same thing to my 01 BIGHIT and fully expected to pay for a replacement, but my LBS "hooked me up" with a new one on the spot...
Dizzy cycles is teh :thepimp: spot...:D

Thats happened to a few of us. My 03 big hit dh was a month old when I ripped my derailleur off and stretched it.
Just put the old hanger in the front bolt/screw hole, leave the other bolt/screw out and lightly tap it with either a rubber mallet or a hammer on a peice of wood.
If that fails, then procede onto warranty clain. While your at it, check the rest of the bike over as you could find other issues with it.

Try to warrenty it if they dont just buy the new chain stay piece.

Just remember the next time you complain about the high cost of bikes that part of the cause is from people claiming warranty when they don't deserve it.
true... spreading the dropout tip on the seatstay is NOT a warrenty item...
but some LBS's will look after it, depends on where eyou go, and how well they know you...

I'm going to tell them exactly what happened, and most likely I'll have to pony up the $$$, but I guess thats what I get for buying used. The only thing I ever warrantied was a Z1 MCR that came brand new out of the box in a puddle of oil before I even mounted it. So I'm not out to get something I don't deserve, I just have to decide what the best route is to getting this resolved. I think that route is bending it back for now, and paying to get it replaced later.

agreed...
i would try to bend it back, but be prepared for the tip to crack or break off...
luckily i think a seatstay assembly is not expensive... and they may even be able to "crash repalcement" policy it for you...
depending on your LBS....
