My buddy in Whistler has an '04 Dirt Jumper III, and it rides trails like crap. The dirt jumping aspects are acceptable, but they should be much better. Any ideas on how to make it feel more plush?

let some air out?
its a DJ fork...
the internals are designed for single large impacts... not many small impacts like a trail fork...
i doubt you'll ever make the DJ'r feel like u want....
they are very inexpensive forks, 350 or something, you shouldnt expect very much in terms of adjustability and internals. Unfortunate, but you get what you pay for.

they dont have that, i beleive they just have gold topcap deals with no adjustment/air assist. But atleast the new ones have been beefed from 03. :)

shit. i'm gonna ride my dj 1 at whistler [hopefully with 5" of travel by then] and i'm going to have the time of my life. i'll make the most of any fork, especially if it's nice groomed trails. i don't need the best acronymed damping system to have fun and go fast.

No, they DO have air assist. You can unscrew the gold top thing. Well at least my buddy who has one can.
i dont know about the 04, but i have an 03 dj3 qr20 that i loved (i'm riding a shiver sc now) and you have to tune it right. i rode it for everything, including trails and it was great. you have to go to a bike shop and get the air adjustable preload setup right (use the psi/rider weight chart in the manual). going to a lighter oil (if its got the heavy oil) in the legs will help. don't change the springs or anything.
the fork is for sale btw, $200 cash. :D

0 to 15psi, whichever feels the best.
The DJ3 doesn't feel plush at all. My Dropoff Comp feels a lot better.

You may have ridden the DJ3 on trails, but man oh man, if you rode it at Whistler you'd die.
I switched from my DJ1 to a 2003 Slider at Whistler when I went this week, it made me cry is was so nice. The DJ internals aren't meant for fast stuff, at all.
yea its not a DH fork thats for sure. i have to say, my shiver SC feels a lot nicer.

i got one with zero air and its about naturally 3inch. good for dj and street. i'm taking it up to whistler soon and i'm not complaining. my fault for buying a dj fork? come to think of it i'm liking it on trails. much more tech control but drops arent its strong point

stop being so dramatic :P i rode a standard axle dj3 up there (and everywhere else) and had a blast. :)
the air adjust makes a HUGE difference... when i got mine back from warranty they set it for what it "should" be for my weight and i hated it... they played around with the air and it felt like a different fork. :) i also had a spring taken out.. i don't know if that would help.
