hi, this is my first time entering the big travel world. I would like to get some foresight on these two bikes (RMX or demo 9). Over all what i am looking for is a versitle long travel bike that i can go and play on and then maybe race. After riding a hard tail and then a tazerfs i feel as if i want more travel! so what do you guys think or should i look for something smaller like a switch or ....

Ford or Chevy! :o
In all honesty, get whatever feels right.
both of those are pretty big bikes...
esp. compared to coming from a HT... u sure u need that much ??
luckily both bikes can run dual ring... so they are both acceptable bikes if u want/need that much travel...
i'd pick the Demo9, but that should come as no surprize. im totally sold on Specialized's product line...:thepimp:

I acutaly Rode a RMX team at rocky cycle a few days ago. and I must say (I HATE duallys) that this bike really seemed quite balanced and travel and stand over was very well put together! but id never ride one for real so. but the demo 9 is your every kids dream bike.. so you deside..

Depends how you want it to feel. The RMX would be significantly lighter so it might be a bit more maneuverable in the air. The Demo looks beefier though. Both would be great choice, it just comes down to what feels best.

I'd go with the Demo 9.
I was seriously considering a RMX this year, (as well as a Scream, VP-Free, Demo 9, etc), but the fact that it seems like RM is always catching up with itself turned me off. I mean, it seemed like the RM7 Wade Simmons model from last year, was totally blown out of the water by the RMX. I didn't want to buy an RMX and have it be outshined next year after RM fixed all the issues with it. I am not sure that made too much sense, but I like designs that are time-tested.
Although the Demo-9 is new, the big hit series proved to be very enduring. A 2001 big hit is not that much different than a 2004.
That being said, I chose the VP-Free.
So go figure. I'd say get a test ride, even the parking lot test, and then decide.
ahh that made no sense because demo 9 is brand new vs rm has like 4 years of testing behind it's product.

7 in the rear, 7 in the front.... you will be very pleased with a setup like such. I really shouldnt be posting since i havent rode either bike but you can go really big with "only" 7" and still make it up the hills. 9" is too much unless you wanna huck and drop to flat. If you want a bike with monsters and 9" of rear travel then try them both because if you gonna spend 5 grand you better be happy with what you get. However you posted versitile so Id be thinking more in the VP-free, bullit, scream lineup

Coming from a HT I'd look a Rocky Mountain's Switch over the RMX (lighter... not a huge difference in travel)... if that doesn't do it for you try a Giant AC... nice rides for the bucks

yeah i know, but i still have a hard tail, a single speed which i rip on, so im not sure if a bike that falls in the middle is whts good for me, but thanks for mentioning the switch again, it is a very appealing bike, but im just woried bout the front shock.

Personally, I'd go with the Demo 9. Even a big hit over an RMX which is strictly a personal preference on my part. And the bit hits rock as it is.
Are these your only 2 bikes that you're interested?
I've done the parking lot test on the Demo while nothing with the RMX. If a lower stand over is a priority for you, the Demo is your choice hands down. Obvious advantages are leaning over in the corners, easier to get behind the seat and more room to manhandle the bike on jumps and in general. Not to the mention the Demo's COG is mucho lower as well so one would think it would make a decent race bike if built up like one.
I also believe Specialized offers a superior warranty.

I've picked up both and the Specialized "seemed" to be lighter.

remeber the other bike i mentioned, the switch. so i got that instead, i have to wait for it to come in, but i will send pictures. the model i got was the sl coil set up because i am wary about the shermans and 1.5, im much more of a zokes guy. But thanks for all the imput, esp the ppl who said i should look into smaller bikes, even though the switch is not that small:thepimp:
