So i picked up a nice new shiny bullit the other day,but a friend of mine picked it up from JH and paid for it as well, then i paid him back later...he couldn't remember my last name and didn't know my adress...i wasn't in, so he just paid for it under his name.

now,if i want to register the frame with Santa Cruz, will i have to register it under his name, or my name? and if I ever need warranty, will i have to get him to deal with everything for me, simply because he paid for it?
thanks for any help!

i'm more concerned with warranty, because thats the reason i bought the new frame...so i could have warranty and whatnot.
i guess if worst comes to worst i'll just have to get you to deal with it in case anything ever happened(which i really realy don't think will).
thankx again for picking it up for me man!

just call 'em up... they will register it under the appropriate name... u wanna make sure the warranty is in YOUR name :D

i had a similar circumstance with respect to a laptop i bought for a client from future shop... got the 3yr extended warranty, cept since i paid for it, the warranty was under my name.

I had 2 weeks to get it switched from my name to his name... a phone call was sufficient

A friend of yours paid for your bike, but he doesn't know your name or where you live?

I could use a few friends like that...

I would have a hard time dishing out $1000 + dollars for a guy whose last name I didn't even know, or his address.

You should clear this up ASAP. Warranty only applies to the original purchaser, which in this case, wasn't you. The receipt has someone else's name and info on it. You can't expect SC or the shop to believe you that you actually bought it by paying him back. The bottom line is you are the official 2nd owner on paper, which could create problems for you.

what use would ashek have for my shipping adress?
we both live in a small town---one of those dealios were you give directions like this:
"he lives 3 doors past the library with the wavy roof, and his house is shaped like a barn"

i just gotta ask---do you know many of you're friends shipping adress?i highly doubt it...

Ashek shelled out the dough because he's a good guy, knows I'm not going to screw him over, and he'd expect the same from me if he was in my situation.
he knows my name, but i have a double last name..not the easiest to remember...what if he had say registered it under my name, but made a mistake?then I'd be royally fucked, now wouldn't I? he couldn't claim things, and neither could I.
i think what he did was the safer bet than making things up...

Uhm, I'd phone them and ask. You have to admit, it sounded kinda strange.

Anyway, if you have the receipt, that's all you need. Go to the website and register. Heck, give JH a call and explain that your buddy picked up your frame for you. Also, has nobody ever heard of a gift? If I had the money and decided to buy my friend a bike, would he not be entitled to a warranty? The warranty is for the first person who contacts Santa Cruz with the serial number/ store/ personal info etc and claims the warranty. If you are not the original owner, then the previous owner would have already done this right? AND, I think you're supposed to do it (register) within the first 45 days after picking up the frame.

Just go to the website and register. If you're worried about the receipt, go back to JH with your buddy and have them give you a separate receipt so you won't have any hassles.

I'm sure that JH could care less. In fact, I'm not sure why this is a problem.

jus to clear things up a little more,
i didn't have the slightest clue they would be asking for a name and adress to throw on the reciept,as i had read the website and it seemed you could just register online...so i didn't bother giving my friend my adress/last name to the exact point..

i didn't really see it as being a problem, but then and again i don't foresee alot of things being problems, and people end up gettign their panties in a knot over the issue anyways.
i'll just shoot JH a call in the next day or two(gotta love the toll free number hehe) and see whats up.

Do most companies have online registration, only? Do companies even give you a warranty card anymore when you purchase a bike? Also, does Santa Cruz send back a confirmation e-mail when they receive your online registration? When I registered my Devinci online, I never received one so I'm not sure that they received it. I guess I should e-mail them, soon...
