my freehub in my XT is about to go......for the 3rd time, well it is like 3 years old :) i never thaught hubs as an important piece of machinery.

my mate has a deemax hub lying around that he said i could buy off him for $120. good condition. he said i would just lace it to my mag30 with trials spokes. would this be just as strong as my normal spokes right now?

I think you're going to have to find some straight pull spokes... those types of wheels are pretty strong and some people have said in the past that straight pull spokes are meant to be stronger... however I've had some experiences where the heads of the spokes have just pulled off.

I think what I'm trying to say is to buy some normal hubs and get them built up. It'll most likely save you some trouble in the long run.

Buy something else.

Dee-Max are over-rated, and way too expensive. They look nice, but it isn't going to perform any better than a regular hub, esp as a hub only (not including the rim). They are meant to be sold as a wheel set, where the real benefits are, not so much in just the hub.

Dee-Max spokes are something like $5 each. Your "good deal" is going to end up costing an arm and a leg.

I also think the spoke count on the hub vs. your rim don't match.

If you're talking specifically about spoke strength, you also need to factor in the types of spokes used (typically double-butted or DT Alpine for DH applications), lacing, and quality of build from your wheelbuilder.

Just something to consider.

doesnt the Deemax use a 28 spoke hub???

:???:

i dont think that hub will work on a MAG30...

*edit*

nevermind its only the new Deemax's that use 28 spoke...

the older versions will work...

the only reason im lookin at getting the deemax hub is coz i can pick it up for a little over $100(aus) and a half decent rear hub in australia is well over 200. its just a hub to me, the brand 'deemax' isnt making me want it anymore.

was just wonderin if there is any troubles.
