View Full Version : How do you remove cassetes?

I just killed my wheelset and iv got a new one, iv switched everything over but i dont know how to remove the cassete.
Im wondering is there a way to remove them and put them back on without having any special tools. Thanks.

i've heard of people using a screwdriver and a hammer, i really would not reccomend doing that. You need a cassette tool, crescent wrench and a chain whip (a chain will most likely work) there really isn't any other way to do it without ruining something.

Iv got the wrench, Dont have a cassete tool, and as for the chain whip... whats a cahin whip?:???: :lol:

Buy this (http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=670281&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=133741&bmUID=1084262701637) from MEC. It's about $6. Then get a chain whip and crescent wrench, and you're set.

Get the tools before u try to take it off.
Its worth getting a 6 dollor tool instead of replacing a 50$ casset :)
