In the market for a DH bike.

Buying a Demo 9.

He knows those two sentences should not correlate, right? A demo 9 is a freeride/hucker bike very much moreso than a DH bike.

Have you ridden one? I have to agree that specialized marketed the bike as a freerider/play bike rather than a DH race bike. However, if you get rid of that eifel tower 888 fork and put a boxxer/dorado/slider +, it tracks and corners as well as any DH bike out there. A buddy of mine in NorCal told me that many semi-pro riders down there are riding demo9 this year. They built it light and apprently you can build it up around 42lbs.

Oh yeah, as far as pricing, your best bet is to go to a bike shop. If your friend is serious about buying the bike, most bike shops will give you a good deal. But be prepared to spend at $5K for a complete bike.

Demo 8 is coming soon. Weight has been shed, and the manufacturing cost has been reduced.

Less complex rib cage area.
Shorter stroke shock.
135mm QR rear end.
Less complex bulkhead area where the rib cage meets the down tube.

Stay tuned.

Is it meant as a DH'er?

Yes, you can't huck it more than 3ft or it will break.

Yikes, $6K is pretty steep for a bike!!! I guess it just didn't occur to me that they cost that much because I picked up frame only and after I sold my previous frame, the cost is not that bad.

No shit!! Unless you're swimming in money, you'll be crazy not asking for a deal. You might want to ask them to match a price from another bike shop.
