I want to buy an ht, i have two choices, a toy iv or an evil imperial, the two are new at the same price. I wondering wich one is better for me, i will mainly do, urban, stair gap, fr (drop), dh and dirt/park/bmx track. The bike will have a boxxer 2002 a the begining and maybe i will change it for a sherman after.

le toy 4 :D much better geo and the new le toy 4 is made mostly for urban street skate dirtjump

never tried a toy but the evil geometry doens't work for me, esp for gapping. it's very steep, and to my mnd calls for a longer travel dc fork, for use as a dh/trail/fr hardtail. try them both, of course, but that's my 2¢

They both run 1.5 remeber that also... and le toy 4 has that new funky rear end.. that works quite well in changing wheel base :D

Id get the toy, i love the geo and i think it is the sexiest frame ever, mate it with a 1.5 sherman dj and pimpin parts, you got the ultimate street/dj bike.

For all around trail riding and stuff i might chosse the imperial. You can't really go wrong with either, but if you want ss it will be much easier with the toy.

Not tryin' to hijack the thread, but I'm thinking of doing the same thing too - DC on a hardtail. Which of these would go best?

Um get le toy 3 if you want to go DC on a hardtail.. also If ANY of you can get your hands on a le toy 3 your better of.. Rocky cycle has 2 in stock brushed alumnium 1 large 1 small.. going for 899 :D last two there is in Mainland I belive.. unless someone else sells 24 bikes

ridden both. have the Evil. I would reccomend the Evil for sure. They are both wicked, but the Evil is the best feeling bike I've ridden. they're perfect on gaps and for freeride.

Question for the Evil riders. Can you get the seat high enough to pedal well when climbing (i.e. can you realistically ride one up Fromme)?

Thanks.

...actually, they're both killer, versatile frames that handle big forks & trail use as well as street/dj. the evil seems to have a slightly steeper head angle, but the handling is otherwise simmilar.

Can you comment on the question I asked before your post.

Thanks.

All depends on the post length and if you have an offset post chances are it may be a little far back but again, that depends on your stem then. You realistically could ride up fromme.

I'd take the Imperial any damn day.

I believe that the Evil was engineered for everything you could throw at it while the Tov IV is overly built since lacking in the FEA the Evil went through.

Either way, you'll like them.

No problem, I do Fromme all the time with my Evil.

Thanks for the reply. I really like the frame but have been warned about the "seat down" focus of the geometry.

while the Tov IV is overly built

both frames weigh about the same (6 lbs) how would you construe the toy as being "overly built"? (and why would this be considered a bad thing??)

I agree, if the Le Toy is "over built" then so is the imperial, and that is what makes them such good bikes, the fact that they aren't heavy underbuilt frames, like most of them out there.

Its definately not a bad thing. At all. I was just trying to imply that the Imperial to me seems to has more R&D into it. The Toy IV is just phat tubes with some stab primo/8 ball drop outs in my eyes. Not trying slag it, but I love my evil so most other things are trivial - I'm like Rossco with his Toy's except I'm all about the Evil :)

I do believe the slack seat tube angle is so that taller riders can have a seat that works for them on aggresive hard tail. My friend is 6'3'ish roughly and his Toy III (size M or their large I think) is to small for him. Where as the Evils laid out geo would accomodate him / a taller rider.

I usually dont raise the seat unless there's a sustained climb ahead and even then with a DC it was easier to grind up in a high gear ratio out of the saddle.

Eddie

FYI,. the Letoy 3 and 4 actually have steeper geometry than the Imperial. By the numbers of course.

Like you said, try both and make a choice from there.

there is a new headset out that just turns 1.5 down to 1 1/8 without lil cups its jsut built in I saw it on a evil on a ride a while ago. :D

Cane Creek Double XC and FSA should also make one.

When I worked at Rocky Cycle, Raceface *may* make a reducer headset. And RF has no plans to make hubs if anyone was wondering.

What I've done with my 1.5 headtube is run the stock reducer cups from Evil and a King Steelset :thepimp: nothing to worry about with that setup :D

hmm sounds right I dunno this one jsut was built into the cups like it jsut shimmed down

if you saw in vancouver, it was probably my Evil, FSA headset that reduces a 1.5 to a 1 1/8 but still uses the big headset bearings a 1.5 would. Model is the Orbit Extreme Pro Reducer, I don't think they even make it anymore, I got mine from FSA directly and it was there last one.
