ok, i have a pair of hayes mechs, and im running Funn levers on it, the ones that came stock with the 02 4hun (torque twisters or something). im looking for a replacement lever, i hate the shape of mine right now. anyone know some levers taht work well with the hayes mechs that are nicer than the Funn's? (smoother edges, easier on hands, etc.)

OH...heh. my gf trashed her funn levers on her 4hun. she replaced them with these:
avid speed dial 7
http://www.avidbike.com/3_levers/media/sd_7_photo.gif
and they are working super well..
i however and running these:
avid speed dial 5
http://www.avidbike.com/3_levers/media/sd_5_photo.gif
i love them.
the sd5 and sd7 are the SAME except the little window on the top that lets you see whats going on inside...
I'll second the Avids - really nice levers and the speed dial is a great feature that allows you to trade power for modulation (and vice-versa).
Note that the levers have a thin section where they are intended to bend. This does make them more prone to bending in a crash, but they are easily bent back - I have done so a few times. Eventually they will fatigue from all the bending, but so far so good. If I was smarter I would keep the set screw a little looser.

i wanted a pair of the speed dial ultimates, but i didnt want to wait to order them and have them arrive. hopefully ill get a pair of them this summer and ill let you know how those go.
When I was running Hayes Mech. I was using XT levers. I loved the feel and the power of the levers.

For mech brakes, you cant go wrong with the Avid Speed Dials. Seriously

i have the speed dial 5s. i had hayes levers before and they were garbage. the SD7 is a waste of money. they're just like the 5s but if you want to pay $10-20 extra for a stupid little window on your lever be my guest.

Go with the Avids. I had the torque twisters on my bike, got em with my 02 4hun, and they're JUNK. It pissed me off at how they had like, 4 different adjusters that do the same thing! They'd constantly be adjusting themselves everywhere.
Avids are nice, but I fixed my solution with some hayes hydros :)

My buddy replaced the funn's on his 4 hun with XTR. I use to have a set of XTR's too and they were the nicest levers I've ever used. Avids would probably be good if you are into adjusting your leverage.
just get the Avid SD levers...
they are so good for mech. discs its not even funny....

get the avid FR's instead of the SD's they have a better end in the lever and are cheaper
