I bent my front 8" Hayes Rotor and i wondered if there any cheaper alternative to the Hayes rotor without sacrificing performance.
Anyone used the MEC no name brand rotors?
Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Monica's Dad's buddy uses them....Not sure on who the manufacturer is but he says they seem to work just fine.
Can you not straighten your rotor? You usually can unless you completely obliterate it.

I've tried but there is just a bit of rub against the pad. It is still rideable, but very annoying. I just might try the rotor at MEC.

i read someplace that the replacement non-hayes rotors arent as thick as the default rotors and have less power. i have no idea if that is true...probably not. but something to consider.
take your rotor to your lbs and see if they cant press it flat for you. i bent my rotor a couple weeks back to the point where it was hitting my chainstay...my lbs straigtened it to where there is basically no rub.
I looked at those on the weekend. if anything they seem to be thicker.

They are made by Delta Aztec and are only available in 160mm and 180mm. I believe they are standard 2mm in thickness.
Some info on this site...

i saw some at north shore sports swap for cheap. not the hayes ones but apparently they work just as well
if you have the time, i've seen seemingly destroyed as in totally tacoed rotors resurrected. it performed like new

Anyone know if the thickness/shape/drilling/etc. of a rotor makes a difference with squealing?

There has a booth at the IDNS this year. Some guy making aftertmarket rotors for hayes and such, pricing was really good too. Ill go and see if I can find the sticker the guy gave me....

I remember that guy too but he had a strange system that needed an adaptor to fit the six bolt pattern on the hub. They were pretty flashy designs though.
Capt Crash let us know how those work out I'd be curious as well to hear.

I got some at the North Shore Sports Swap - think they were $18 - work fine for me.

A buddy of mine checked and the 180mm Rotor at MEC doesn't fit the 8" Hayes - it fits the Hope and Shimano only. They do have one that fits the 6" Hayes though...
I suppose i'll get it a new rotor from my local bike store that supports our local trails!!!

I think that is wrong...Because Shimano rotors will work for Hayes, and I've seen the rotor you are talking about in an 8" Hayes application.
I think the guy behind the counter is wrong.

Maybe it's because 180mm = 7 inches, not 8. The 180mm most likely fit Avid too.

For 8", you should look at 200 to 203mm rotors.
everybody and their dog seems to have spare rotors laying around... (at least I always do)
put a WANT as in the buy&sell and see if anything comes forward

who's the guy who makes alu. and ti rotors and special pads for them??? I read a review in MTBA a long time ago, and they like never shriek, weigh less, and diipate heat faster...just the pads alone with stock hayes rotors are supposed to be sweet...
a little bit of creative spacer usuage will allow you to use 180mm rotor with hayes :D

Stan makes em (think notubes guy). Theyre an aluminum rotor with a special coating. The coating wears off after a while and you have to send it back to get recoated.

So does GRComponents (Yodobikes.com distributes them) - but neither Stan's nor GRC is cheap.
I think Aztec is pretty cheap.
