Ok.. this is for all the threads about sponsorship that i've seen all flying around people who are wanting to get sponsored and wondering how and what it is...

allright...there has been so many people talkin about sponsorship right now and merely none of them know what it's really about... it's not so much about getting deals...or ur skill which has allready been mentioned...but here is my personal view on what sponsor ship is...

sponsorship is just really another form of advertisement for companies, it's not just for sports but for any company or event. it does more than paying for commercials or or banners and what not. so really what that company is doing is looking for different ways to advertise. ie... supporting a local racer who might get video coverage for a race with thier logo on his jersey. but sponsorship is again as mentioned not about the skill it's how u handle urself as a person while represent the company. being sponsored is like u being almost like a live commercial, advertising that companies gear and expanding it's buisness. now sponsorship comes of course in different levels. u may make a contact to a company that u start to know. and hey maybe they'll give u a free t-shirt to wear around as u support them. but sponsorship grows as u do more for them....if u start gettin out to public more..maybe doing shows or riding on the trails more and the company is starting to notice an improvement in thier sales maybe they'll start sending u some gear to keep u safe and in return u tell other ppl that's it's great gear. so the level of sponsorship depends on the level u get out to the public.....of course all the top name guys have all these sponsors because he's doing a huge amount of advertising as he's coming down and hanging around at the world circuits and what not....

so yeah i've typed a lot but to sum it up...sponsorship i feel is more as an advertisement franchise. yeah ok to a certain extent. ur skill can determine how high in the sponsorship ranks u get...but with any company nomatter how good u get u still have to present urself as a really kewl fun personality guy.....

well there's my 2 cents...lol..
so i hope that enlightens the one's who had no clue to sponsorship and hope it clears the topic

WELL SAID!! /\ /\ /\

now. taking that all into account, im a very positive person, i like to ride my bike! everyday i might add, and i have many mountain biking friends. Im hoping that just by that, i can get a sponsor. What do you guys think? Is it possible? My skills seem to be comparable to some of my friends, who have sponsors already. So should i try and get some free stuff?

here is a photo of what i have been up too. 3 Star off of a 25 foot gap!

the only way someone will give you free shit is if you help em sell more of what your being given......hangin out at your local jump spot isn't enough, these days its gettin harder an harder into bamboozling companies into handing over free stuff.

brad take your B-rock crew and write a story for this site or work on creating some sort of media attention...then the sponsors will be glad to help you out.

As it stands there are not enough contests even at a pro level to justify too much free stuff, all the indoor show jumpers had the right idea.....show up at local events and represent....

most of you fellas are at a local support level, and I think that most of the local marketing type peeps already know who the hard workers are,

you guys are starting to sound like a bunch of mid-pack racers wondering why they aren't hooked up.....???

get to work, then the scwag'll come rollin' in.

With the way the industry is these days you need to be pretty professional about the whole thing. Treat looking for sponsorship like applying for a job; put together a good CV with your race results and/or events that you have participated in as well as your plans for the coming season. Throw in some nice photo's and a link to your website if you have one.

Also, get in early when applying for sponsorship; perhaps as early as right after the end of the season. Even now most companies will have already allocated their budget for this season.

Well said. You couldn't pay for a better quote.
