Scott@NSMB, has held the idea of doing a group ride for a while now. He's been patiently waiting for me to get my bike in real good rididng condition. He has stated that he wants to do the ride as a way for us to get back into the swing of real riding. Sort of a "Lets get Jaru out and into it" thing. What I want to do is to set a date to go to Whistler. I know that I still desire a new dually, but whatever, I need to ride Whistler this year. My brother and Elaine's brother are both up for some carnage:D too. The 4X race idea appeals to me, simply because I can't jump properly. Yet. But put me on a BMX track like LaFarge and I'll give'er just because I can:lol: So the 4X course excites me! Even though it's probably bigger than any BMX track.
The whole Charity bit does not have to be for Trinity any more, but we could do it for Canuck Place, or the Red Cross, or for Ward 3B at BCCH, there are a couple of nurses that ride, they might be interested in coming out too.
Thats my two bits folks, you all know how to get a hold of me.

Thanks, Justin

just set it up kinda like Norco had VPS Fest... and everyone with bro cards has their lift fees donated to NSMB to be given to a bicycle related fundraiser or a charity, and anyone wearing NSMB garb gets a discount on their ticket and whatnot. a 4x race would be wicked... run a big NSMB train of everyone down a line!

Imagine 3,731 riders charging Whistler. Think Whistler would be pumped?:rawr:
If it happens on July 9th or 10, I would already be there! I'd still try to find a way - an excuse to ride Whistler is an excuse to ride Whistler.:D

What if there were teams in a sort of relay and each team represented a certain charity or good cause. And then just divy up the associated monies by like %40 for first, %25 for 2nd, %15 for 3rd and so on.

That way we can rock multiple charities and even multiple runs :D :rocker:

why not host a fund raiser, rent out whistler for the whole day, invite only 10 other riders, and take pics with how empty the lines are

or even better..rent out JUST the gondola and dont let anyone up it :D

I agree Ross. To have an NSMB Charity Ride Day would be sweet. I know that I would be down seeing as you all have helped us out soo much I think that its time for me to put something back into the community. Like I said earlier Scott@NSMB wants to do a ride "for me" so to speak, well I'd like to atke that opportunity to make that ride into something that benefits us all, like a ride for the Red Cross Blood Bank. Something that we all, or someone we know of has had to use. Thats what I think, any other ideas?

Instead of a race...they could do a 24-hr. marathon sesh of some kind. That could be different.

There are insane amounts of places that a charitable contribution(s) could help...no matter which ones are chosen, the participants will ultimately benefit as well.:D

We have something on the schedule that will fit in nicely.

We are going to hold a tryout for the final position on the team at Whistler on the opening day of Garbonzo - June 26th.

It should be a blast. I'll be following up with more details as we get them sorted out.

Some sort of fundraiser in Trinity's memory - with proceeds going to Canuck Place or some other worthy cause - would be a nice addition.

uhmm...what about the North Shore Mnt Biking Association...I mean, I dont think they're exactly swimming in cash - and being 'bikers' it's always cool to give back for all the fighting they do for us with city council and all that.

24-hr A-line marathon!
that could raise alot of money!!

a-line marathon but in pairs so each can watch out for the other...much like that skiing 24hour downhill thingy...

okay maybe my ideas were "off".

how about renting out every other gondola so the line at the base builds up like its vps-fest 2004

LOL.. haha

lol I want a charity that EVERYONE can do.. every level.. I not going on the garbonzo chair mostly.. and ya a good A LINE thing.. the most logged a line runs in 1 day whatever and its like 5$ to enter or whatever Id do that just think on a avg day whistler gets about 400 or more ppl (in july) think of the $$ nsmb could earn and remeber once you given to a charity they remeber you and can help you out sometime as well... :D

person with the most a-line runs...

but for each bruise or injury you lose a point from your total
for each busted bike part, you lose 5 points.

depends on the riders...

are they standing around the corner on a blind landing? how about not getting their busted up bike out of your way?

i say any injured rider you tag is minus a point...any dumbass that is in the way on a dangerous place...plus 10.

i like your thinking :D

Ok Ross, I'll add some fuel to the fire...

I just had an idea... Don't laugh, my brain does work, on a part-time basis. The idea is this...

How's about we have a night ride event. get the 4X track and the Boneyard/Slopestyle section all lite up and ride, "From Dusk till Dawn" on the shortest night of the year!!!! How's that sound. Now I know that they would have to light up the above sections, and get some staff to lend support. I also think that they could charge us riders a lower fee, and donate some of that entrance fee to the Whistler Search & Rescue and the Red Cross!!!

Well sound good??!!!
Please discuss.

That would be cool forsure...
I dont know how appealing it would be to ride just 4x for a long amount of time... as it is pretty rough
And it would be a push your bike up I presume?
Would be interesting

this all sounds completely cool and obviously well intended, however I have not observed that Intrawest is all that interested in charity events. The do seem very interested in pure profit and this is why they have created and sustained such a muchos excellent ski area(s) and mountain bike park. I might be wrong about this but I think whom ever is going to float this idea to the Intrawest group had better have answered the question "what's in it for them" prior to making the pitch.

Usually when a company backs a charity even all they get out of it is some good PR.

(le sigh) I know that people like Intrawest are just in it for their profit, and I admire Rossco's drive to want to do the right thing, but when I tried to get a Jump Jam going at BCCH, I got zip. They were too concerned about their image and such. If we really want to do this, be it at night or during the day, then we need to have some sort of HEAVY support, and we NEED to decide on one idea and get together with said support and come up with a bulletproof plan. Any takers?

Rosscofat
04-18-2004, 02:25 PM
yes we do.. but the thing is.. it will take ALOT... thats why I am saying somthing thats inside.. like we just know what we are doing and we can tell ppl about it like at the DJ in whistler thats free u can have ppl down thee handing stuff out getting donations or somtihng like a big JUMP jam with pros and the local rippers. Give them a good show and they would be more willing to open up there wallets and support us and a good cause
