So I have a question. Why is Berrecloth selling his two bikes? Namely the new '04 Demo 9 (http://www.nsmb.com/buy_sell/show.php?ad_id=99090&category=bikes_dual) ?
I find it a bit wierd, his '03 Big Hit (http://www.nsmb.com/buy_sell/show.php?ad_id=99086&category=bikes_dual) is there too...

This brings me to my main question. What do most pros do with their bikes post season? Do they sell them, give them back, keep a barn full of bikes? I have always wanted to know what happens to these rides.
Any answers????:???:

Darren's old bikes.

Jordie has a barn full of bikes.

Depends what it says in the contract, some become yours, some are always company property but you get the ride them until they fall apart anyways.... that is... unless it's a Banshee :D

you dont pay for your bike but you can sell it at the end, depends on your contract

everyone has different deals, most $$$$ contracted guys, ride their bikes until they basically "need" new ones. DB is a bit of a special case( rock star).

Bikes cost companies quite abit, and they generally only give out what is needed. KONA and RMB are good examples of companies that give their riders only what they need, and only hand out bikes when the old ones are done. Believe it or not Wade and Thomas really only have 2 bikes. wade has 4(RMX, Switch, Flow, and an ETS, a little bonus to help him recover from the leg).

I wonder if that big hit is the awesome ano pink one:love:

its not the pink big hit that hes selling its a black one

and the lunns have tons of bikes some of the santa cruz ones they sell but still they got a lot of them, when thier dad was running that part of the team. usually you can get a good deal on used ride that a pro is selling, cause they just need the cash thats why they're selling it. but some contracts dont allow riders to sell the bikes after the contract is up or when the season is done, which kinda sucks for them, when they're contract isnt paying them much to ride and race

Yeah it is all in what your contract with the company is. Like some riders get to keep their bikes for the year, then they sell them to pay for their race entry fees, and then get new ones the next year if their still signed on with that company.

does anyone know how much wade or cedric makes a year if thats how it works?

I'm just curious since there like two of the top riders:)

I think you'll find Wade and Cedric will have two very different salaries. Pro freerider versus Pro international downhill racer. I'll bet Cedric makes double what Wade does.

I'll also bet no one knows but their agents and themselves.

A lot of sponsorship deals are around 50% of the bikes value due after 180 days. This way, you get the bike for free, ride it, sell it for what you paid for it (selling a bike for half price with only 6 mths riding would be easy), give that money to the company, and get your next ride.

Well, that's what Leelau told me.

The year that Roland Green was the WC champ he was taking in a "good six figure" salary but I'm not sure if it includes his race winnings.

Agreed. I think he's trying to appeal to the "I have Darren's bike that he dropped with in Ride the Lightning!". For his BH, anyway. He was trying to sell that a few months ago too...obviously he didn't get any takers. At least it's not like a gretzky-used hockey stick. That would go for the same price, and it's only wood!

I saw a poster up in Reckless on Yates that had Bourbon selling his little custom stinky too. It was awhile ago though.

I see...
The Demo 9 is steep, thats for sure. As for the wage scale bit I would agree, Cedric would most defintely make more than Wade, I would guess 6 figures for him as he's such a "star" and able to ride pretty much anything in sight, World Cup, Red Bull, etc. Wade on the other hand (God Love Him!) Probably makes a bit less than that 4 and a half 5 figures maybe????? I don't know, but your answers have given me some good insight though. Thanks.

LOL...what exactly is 4 and a half figures ?

The two biggest differences are very much out in the open.

A- Wade rides for a bike company
Cedric Rides for an international Conglomorate telephone Company

B- Wade negotiates his deals in Canada (North America)
Cedric Deals with European divisions

Europe has always had a better response to cycling and the televised version of cycling. It is much more lucrative to be riding for a european based team.

Siemens Information and Communications --- the parent company of Seimens Mobile has over 95,000 employees and generates over 25 BILLION in sales Annually.

Rocky Mountain Bikes on the other hand.....

That being said both Wade and Cedric do quite well for themselves.

Due to contract agreements and NDA's none of those figures can be public knowledge however.

A release of financial information would void all riders contracts.

$6400 for a USED bike that Darren Rode.....Not in my lifetime....

I'd bet Cedric makes a lot more than that. Same with Steve Peat.

Lee is correct, but if that is what your deal is, then peeps need to realize that you are not a pro if you pay for your bikes.. Thats half the prob, too many wannabee pros runnin around playin the role.

I've done it myself, but now that I'm near 10 years into this, and doin it for real, I realize how silly I was. The guys that get paid or just get free equipment have paid their dues, and give back to their sponsors and the riding community.

Companies don't hand over stuff unless they can make a multiple back, and for the record Cedric and Wades wages are not even comparable. Cedric has been making serious buck for a long time. He owns a Ferrari among other things.

small companies like Banshee, Ellsworth, etc. its hard to even get a free frame there...

theres more leverage in "pro" price deals for up and coming riders, get your frame hella cheap but covers most of the raw cost, gets you out there riding, they start selling more frames like the one your riding and you get the next season frame early, sell yours on..its all good :thepimp:

i remember reading an article in dirt about how that company nico vulious used to race for ( i think sunn?) destroyed all their team bikes at the end of the season because of some sort of confidential stuff or something?

Also, I don't think I would buy a bike from Barrecloth, that dude is insane! I'm guessing his bikes would be beat like a kid in southern Texas!
