is it possible to unlace a rim, and then put a different hub onto it?
or will undoing the spokes warp the rim?

not reccomended though. Youll sometimes get an S bend in the wheel where basically you cant true it ever again....

Uhhh. 'S bend' What?

IVe rebuilt rims like this may times. Never had a problem. One 521 of mine has been built onto 5 hubs. It developed a flat spot so i put shorter spokes in that section to make up for it. The wheel is still going strong.

Any decent wheel builder should have no problems.

Are you sure?
I do it all the time... well the shop guys that rule do it, but I do that to my rims so many times, and never a problem ever.

i think the only time u might see a rim go "S-bend' upon unlacing is if its a super low end rim...

never seen it happen to a high end MTB rim thou...

If it's a decent rim that hasn't been totally out of true and recovered before (which are the ones that I always seem to get), you know where you tell the guy that his wheel is beyond repair, he whines he has no money, you get out the 2x4 and the mallet, make it straight but tell him to take it easy and get a new wheel asap......he keeps riding it, then bitches when it explodes................

oops, a little off track there. It can and is done pretty often, if it becomes an ordeal to rebuild it may cost extra$$. Make sure you get new spokes...........$30 worth of spokes is better than a years worth of headaches.

Depends what you consider High end, ive seen it happen to a single track and a rhyno lite.

Basically youll ge the bend out, but itll travel around the wheel and youll just end up over tightening all the spokes.

If its something like a D321 of a mag30 you should be fine though.

It's not a problem on any rim. Just don't be a fool and cut the spokes out, that's where you will run into problems with tension and warping. Just detension it the same way you built-a little at a time.
