recently ive been hearing this creaking noise comin from the headtube/headset area, so i took the fork out, regreased all the bearings and raceways etc etc. but the creak is still there. whenever i tighten my headset, the creak goes away for a few minutes of riding but returns again :(
im not sure weather i need a new headset, or if it might be my fork, or maybe the starnut is slipping. any suggestions?
ive got a 2001 Super T with a WTB momentum headset.

The creaking from my headset resulted in a cracked frame (at the headtube and top tube).
Check your frame for any cracks...

crack in the frame, or ovalized headtube.

id prefer it to be just a shot headset or whatnot

Sounds like the headset just keeps coming loose quickly, which makes me thing you probably ovalized your headtube.
Go to a good bike shop and have them check it out.

im thinking that the problem lies in the headset somewhere, i read some reviews on it, apparently its a good headset....for cross country haha

Could be the headset, is it cracked that you can see?
It could also be your fork... what fork do you run?
Try replacing it with a $35 FSA Pig. Gary and Bill will even install for you

well i took it to overtime and apparently the problem was that it needed a new star nut in the steer tube because the other one was slipping.
so gary put a new one in and the creak is gone now :)
if it does decide to rear its ugly head again, i think ill just replace it with an FSA pig or FSA pig dh pro like ATN suggested.
