I was wondering if anyone would like recommend a decent pair of shorts that will last. I am looking at Azonic Catalyst and Fox 360, but that quite a bit of coin, any alternatives? Also, how to pants compare? They look pretty warm if you wear shin guards underneath. Lets hear some recommendations and maybe throw in the $$$. THanks

A year ago I went to Overtime and they were selling some clothing at really awesome prices. I bought a pair of good shorts for $30. You should call and see if they have any clothing.
Simons sometimes has really good pricing too.
I have the Fox and Race Face shorts, amongst others, and they've held up very well.

I agree with jaru72. I got a pair of these last x-mas and used them almost everyday. There hasn't been a rip in them since. Then i bought the Roach Indy shorts on sale for $50. There have been a few rips in them. The only thing I don't like about the samurai shorts it that they are sort of tight fitting (not like lycra, but they're not as baggy as the Roach ones). And they are a bit shorter in length. But other than that, they are amazing. I will buy another pair as soon as i need do. If you are worried about the sizing, you should try them on first. But they should fit you ok.

Skateboard shorts are great. They're meant to be breathable, but also be "tear resistant" from bails.
I have a pair of Matix shorts that I've had for like 4 years and they still look new and I've bailed on them on my skateboard, ate shit, etc...still here. There's obviously no padding, but hey, you won't look like some freak from a bike show when you wear them...they're pretty casual clothing and not too short. They're also like $25-30 in stores....

I'm gonna look into those 'non southern exposure' MEC shorts. I have a pair of NEMA shorts that I bought a long time ago from John Henry's (back when Ken Maude gave every rider good deals) . I paid about $100 for them, but they look almost like new, and get worn almost every ride. I questioned if $100 shorts were 'worth it' - well I know now they definitely were!
par none the best shorts i've owned are the Kona clump ones....

but they aint cheap...
alas they sure last a LONG time thou...i' vehad mine for over 4 full years of constant riding, adn they show minimal wear...
super happy with em...
the Azonic stuff is also nice, but it doesnt have any pockets which can be a pain...but the Azonic gear is super burly...

I'm a big fan of Azonic shorts for fit, durabilty, and no catching crotch on the seat, but I also don't like the lack of pockets. I think JensonUSA has Azonic cargo shorts for $30 USD. I hate pants, and only wear them when it is below freezing.

ive got a pair of sombrio shorts. tear resistant layered material all over. fits together with armor nicely too. ive had many bails onto dirt and pavement. the shorts are still in excellent shape and offer good protection. ive had em for maybe 2 years now.

I pciekd up the MEC Samurai Pants (close enough to shorts) for $50... top notch product, everything I've got from there really is engineered well, stands up well, and a great price to boot.
