With all the talk of slide scanners I thought I'd interject and find out peeps in the know suggest in the way of a light table/loupe for slide work...you gotta know which slides you want to scan first right?
what to look for, how much to pay...
I've looked on photo.net but the advice over there is a little hardcore for me, as a hobbyist.

I have one of these light boxes (http://www.adorama.com/VRPLB10122.html)
And one these loupes (http://www.adorama.com/PK2018ST.html)
Someday I'll buck up and get one of these (http://www.adorama.com/PX5XL.html) like the one at the lab I go to.
If I were doing it over, I'd get a 16x18.
I have the same box and the 'buck up' loop

Schneider loupes have a huge reputation, but unless you're extremely anal, you probably won't see any difference with the cheaper ones.
Pentax loupes are also really good.
