I'm looking to buy a 24" front wheel for my .243
And i have 2 (maybe 3)lined up:
#1.
24" ryno lite
20mm formula hub
tied and soldered spokes.
$100 cnd
Lives in eastern canada
#2
24" Sun BFR
20mm hayes(hugi) hub
$80 US (about $100 cnd)
Guy lives in the states, but i've dealt with him before so im not worried.)
#3
Buy a new 20mm hub (or used)
buy 24" ryno lite (or mavic xy) next time in edmonton
get it built.
$__.__ more money, new wheel, have to wait atleast 2 weeks.
the other two i can buy RIGHT now.
#1 is prety much brand new
#2 he used for a while
#3 ... well would be brand new.
Whats the best deal/wheel ??

Id get the new wheel cause you dont know how well the other 2 hae been laced. 2 weeks out of riding isnt a big deal in the middle of the winter in alberta.
If it was summer though, id say go with the one in the states...

if you dont wanna build it, and you trust the guy from the states, go for his wheel, better rim, really good hub, i have owned 3 of them, and ive loved them all to death! and yah, its just better.
let me guess.. the both have never been off road, in box condition?

no,
the BFR is used quite a bit, the ryno lite hasnt been used much on a few urban rides, and has one scratch on the hub.

From what you have said, the first and second wheel will be very similar as the rims are pretty similar to each other, and so are the hubs (basic 20mm hubs are all very similar). But, I dont really agree with tied and soldered spokes, its not needed and can be a hassle in the long run.
I would build an XY onto a Formula 36h (XY is only 36h) If I was you.. Just because I have a hard time buying used wheels.
Anyway you go you cant go wrong, all good choices.

imo they're all bad deals, since you can get a brand new front wheel from Overtime for like $120, and they dont charge tax most of the time.

I dont leave close to overtime at all though.
It would probbly cost me about
150 to build a ryno lite wheel
I'm buying the BFR's im pretty sure.

Buying the front asap, then after my braketrade im gonna buy the rear and sell my doubletrack.
I think they will be fine, its only a urban and jump bike, and i tension my wheels regularly

the BFR is a good rim. it's also called the mammoth and that's what i have on the front [26", 36h]. it's in between the single and double track in strength. my wheel costed $130US new, so i'm thinkin $80 canadian is a good deal.

i agree w/ the other poster... those wheels seem pretty expensive for what they are and being used.
if the prices don't include shipping then it might be just a bit more to get a brand new wheel built up...

Stay away from soldered spokes... they don't actually add any wheel strength and if they aren't done right things ran actually be worse...
