44 tooth ring is a bitch and a half on skinnies. i'm gonna bump down to a 36 when i get some cash together. i still think 44 is rad for alot of trails, just the steep rolls it scrapes and it's alot of torque for balance on skinnies.
i think it's gonna get packed away for whistler and i'll shorten the chain and giv'er.

I'd go to a 38T.
you don't lose alot of clearance with a 38t. vs. a 32 even,and it's worth it.
BTW,you will still be scraping as its you chainguide that is set ot take a 44t.

Ha ha...what did I tell ya!
Go for a 38 or 36...You will like it way more.
:)
I loved my 38. Could climb anything and still had enough speed for large gaps.
OWNED..........
:P
go to a 38 Zaskar...
your a big dude, so u shouldnt have nearly as much trouble spining that ring... plus it'll still give u a decent amount of top-end speed for Whistla....
Don't listen to them. Road cassette + 42 tooth owns the shore, just make sure your high gear works or buy a bigger cassette. this is from a speed point of view as well. Dh racers never use anything smaller than 42.
oh come on m33p, not everyone is FAST like you...:(
Zaskar has a long ways to go, to get past u on A-line....

not fast, just basic. Even for skinnies 42 with a xtr cogset from 32-11 will get you up most skinnies. If it doesn't the trail needs a hardtail and is probley pretty boring.

dude i got my scream mid september of 02. your bro was riding all summer up at whistler. i dunno what your point is....that i've gotten alot better or that i can and still work you down the mountains hahaha oh and don't even bring up nickey
john, i run a 44 tooth with a road cassette right now. i find it's a pain on some stuff. really depends. i could keep riden my setup. but when i get some bling i'll slap the smaller chainring on and see how i like it, no reason not to.
