Anyone know of good group rides (from personal experience) to join for the up coming season?

I'm looking for something like JH use to have - cost $15 where part of the money went to trail building (which I fully support in multiple ways), the other for insurance (which I don't need but is required by any club). I'm not looking for paid leaders (hell I'll even lead - I have lots of time in the past) or famous riders just good people, good times.

I'll do both shuttle and non-shuttle rides. The non-shuttle though must include fun downhills (standard shore downhills not pipeline or UBC endowment lands etc.). I also want them to be on the North Shore (which is my backyard) or possibly near other mountains I travel less often to - Woodlot (which is awesome) or Burke or Eagle, though depending on the day of the week and time if I can make it to those mountains.

Doesn't have to be affiliated with a shop or anything but having a series of weekly committed rides, rain or shine, I find very motivating (weekends are easy, weekdays are the hard days to commit sometimes or find others to ride with).

If I was a little faster and a better rider I'd join your group ride :P oh and if I was still living here in the next few months. But I think you've got a good idea. Does JH not do group rides anymore?

Cove does a group ride in the summer. I am sure JH does something. Dizzy does night shuttles in the winter, as well as spin classes. The North Shore Triatheletes do a ride on Weds nights. JH has womyn only rides. NSMB has a ride every friday night downtown, but those are another story :)

I know JH does weekly rides but they have changed from a $15/yr ride with funds going to trails and insurance to $45/yr ride with paid (or compensated - i.e. a new bike to ride for season) leaders. I don't need paid leaders or famour riders - just a bunch of normal riders for weekday rides. I won't pay for leaders - when I kayak I don't pay for leaders either (I'm often a leader (we use volunteers) - that's why it's a club not a commerical entity). I'll happily contribute to trail maintanence, for insurance (less happily here as I don't need any but understand the reasons why it's necessary), volunteer as leader or sweep and offer shuttles if necessary.

I'll check out Dizzy's and Cove (I knew about them but I was hoping someone could give me their perspective of the rides). Are there others? Perhaps not associated with a store? Maybe I should create a club - or perhaps NSMB could provide an electronic meeting ground for rides? Just thinking aloud here....

The Cove rides tend to be pretty informal. Usually around 5-7 riders. IMO, this is a better size for group rides. Last year, they started out with a ride up/ride down format (mostly Seymour AFAIK), but later switched to a shuttle format. I think it depends on who will be leading the group rides.

You'll have to phone the shop and find out who will be in charge of the group rides this year. Smoke might also have an idea.

I'd be into riding tuesday afternoons, I could also ride thursday and friday when ski season is over.

the ride planning forum is really useful to hook up with people for rides.
