Honda Racing Corporation announced on Thursday that as part of its global activities program, it is launching Team G Cross Honda, a downhill mountain-bike team that will contest the world championships, NORBA series and selected World Cup races.

Can't wait to see Minnaar piloting the RNO1.

Just imagine who else they could sign if they wanted to. Not sure how serious Honda is in this venture but I'll assume they'll be fairly committed (understatement) to it.

And that RNO1 is sexay imo.

Anybody else thinking that maybe other MX companies will get involved on frame mfg'ing / developing?

It could be very interesting as there isn't another bike manufacturer that has such deep pockets. If they spent half, no even a tenth of what they spend developing a sport bike on a downhill bicycle I bet they would come up with some pretty original ideas.

With the way motorbikes are designed these days there isn't a whole lot of change in the suspension as much as in the engines driving them but imagine if they put their brain power to making a smooth dh platform, mmmmm I can't wait.

You can also bet it would be tremendously popular at the bike races, even if at the beginning it's somewhat of an oddity.

I couldnt agree more. Search pinkbike or google for the honda bike if you havent seen RNO1 yet - looks quite spiffy.

This looks like a win win situation for Honda in developing the RN01 and racing it in the world championships, NORBA series and selected World Cup races.

The amount of exposure and publicity will be worth the coins spent. Not to mention the program will benefit the MX division and if they have a successful season racing, I'm sure I'll be riding a Honda in the near future.

Not only that Shaker, but think about the exposure Honda can bring our sport. Its been said many a time in this bb that our sport is just really beginning and Honda can only do good things for it.

And is there any other pictures of the RNO1 besides the litle thumbnail sized ones on PB?

I cannot agree more. That is why Honda is in the game. With all that resource at their fingertips they have the ability to push the industry to a whole new level. Producing high quality low cost efficient bikes that will change how bike companies design and manufacture this 2 wheel man powered freedom machine that we all love and enjoy the very first time we sat on it and ride away........

Actiouly they have! I was surprised to find out too! I had a chance to go to Europe a few weeks ago. There I picked up some bike magazine, to find a KTM bike. If any of you know MX KTM is a rather large company, very well known. Now in Europe, they will be selling a MTB! Nothing quite special I would say, I could look back and try and find the pic, but I think it was just a single pivot.

I'm quite sure its US funds. Still, $75,000 US for a BIKE. Only Honda could come up with something like that

That makes me wonder so much about the fabrication and materials.

It shouldnt be that hard to mount a mx fork and shock on a bike.
And the drivetrain cant be that complicated to produce such a high cost.

And of course, what sort of warranty woudl it have ;)
