dont focus on the spin at all. when you air out its not a 180 at all. you dont have to focus on the spin much. i learnt on a halfpipe, its a lot easier because you can keep going for a long time until you have it. wooden is easier also becasue it is less intimidating. worry about meeting the tranny good, not the 180.

Just learn below the coping. Go slow enough that you wont rise above the coping, then hop just before the highest point and do the spin, it's not really a spin, just look back down the quarter and your bike will automaticall follow. Keep doing it until you have it dialed and just keep going a bit faster, and soon you will be doing it with your front tire above the coping, then just keep going. It's really really easy to learn on a BMX, mtb is a bit harder to learn on I would think.

ha. I tried to disaster an 8' quarter and I didn't have enough momentum. I ended up falling into the bowl backwards. ha

i personally find cement much easier to ride than wood i rekon wood (which is rare around here the only wood ramps ive ridden are dodgy ones) is scarier becase i dunno i must be a freak

yea i find wood quarters to be easier too cause they dont seem to have as much vert, i cant seem to air very high outta concrete quarters (if at all) either though.

Once you have learned to do 180's it's a matter of getting the nerve to do it on a pipe. Start low and keep working your way up, I found it much harder to pull 180's 3/4 of the way up then getting out of the top. It feels real strange the first couple of times riding out of the top above the copping, but once you get comfortable doing that your on your way.
Make sure you pull back on the bars just a bit when you start getting out of the pipe or your back wheel will case the copping coming back in, no fun hanging a wheel.

once you get above coping nosedive it so you dont case with your back

I learned to air out on a halfpipe, it is alot easier to do that way than pedalling half way across the park. Learn to carve nicely first and then you will find it easy. Ride around bowls and stuff alot and you'll get a feel for it. I'm no pro but just keep your weight forwards so you don't get any backwheel-coping action happening.
