View Full Version : How 2 increase Beam/brace Height ?
How do I increase the height of supproting beams - i mean there are not many pieces that are 15 or 20 feet high.
Background: I am still planning on putting up a kind of "Flowshow".
Any input is appreciated.

I suppose that you don't have any land to cut tree's down?
If it's going to be something like a flowshow, then will it be dismantled and put back up quite often?
If this is the case, pressure treated wood from the lumberyard would probably work best...you can get everything all squared up quite easily with lumber, because it's all straight.drill holes and use large bolts to bolt everything together.
build it stronger than strong...you really do not want it falling down onto a million spectators..that definately would not set a good precedent for the sport!!

overlap uprights by 1/2 thier length ( that means 1/3 below 1/3 ovberlap 1/3 above ) and bolt it together with 1/2" carrage bolts. Also think triangles for stability ie. Cross braces and make things wider at the bottom than the top etc.
They probably use metal reusable scaffolding in Germany for construction, but try to find some specs for building scaffolding and you'll be ok.
Thanx guys - I thought about the points you mentioned above as well, but thought, hmmm for verification ask the fellow riders at nsmb. Cheers again.
As soon as I have finished writing on my exam paper for university, I'll send some pics.
