If Cedar is not available, what other types of wood are good for building ladders? Thanks.

fir is good. though not as good as cedar at repelling rot.

larch is another good alternative, though none really compare to cedars rot resistance or ease of splitting...

there is no other than cedar. just make sure that you stick to coniferous trees.

coniferous=evergreen
deciduous=stupid leafy things (birch, maple, etc)

yeah I was thinking the same thing. Conifers are good Deciduous are bad.

Cedar definitely lasts, and splits easier/better, but other woods can be used too.

Hemlock, spruce, and fir will work. You'll definitely find this stuff around here. Just split thicker pieces for rungs.

sorry, i can never rember which is which :stupid: i was just tryin to say, stick with ever greens and do not use trees that are seasonal dependent.
