Well, sit back and i'll tell y'all a story

I moved out here from Alberta few years back and was looking for places to ride. So people at the various shops pointed me to the shore, It was good I'd go solo riding like I'd always done. I'd meet lot of wicked riders and have great days. I love it. I ain't the best and don't claim to be, I just do it because I love riding. I bought my first (and only so far) Dully a RM6, a few years after I came to B.C .

Fast Forward to October 2003, after many years of hearing the storys about Moab. I and a friend set out on a road trip that would be the king of all road trips. We get to Moab and promptly find the SLICKROCK TRAIL, and start givin'er. That trail takes endurance, 12 miles long with only a handfull of flat spots you're never lacking in traction, but it all rock and sand. Man, was it tireing. We thought that was cool but what else is there. so we spend 4 more days in Moab and fing more of the same rock to jeep trail. Porcupine rim trail was cool, the views were amazing.Jeep trail up to a bit of single track, a lift accessed area that was neat to do once. It all seemed like a bit of a let down, from the build up that moab recieves.

It was great to see how it's done in other places. but it just felt like another era gone by, in biking

So here we are today. I came back with a renewed enthusiasm in the Shore. and a broken hardtail from all that climbing, heh heh.

I went to Fromme my 1 day off back in Canada and rode up. The thing that strikes me now, is that the trails down in Moab were something else before (ie hiking trails)like alot of the trails on the Shore.

But what seperates our style up here is the builders that see something that's missing or something that can be improved upon. It is improved on here, unlike the traditional Moab trails where people are all still riding a trail that was laid out by a 90cc dirt bike in 1982(ie slickrock). And as importantly,as the builders is the riders that keep progressing the lines and the moves. look at an old school trail like grannies, which is great and flows beautifully, then go to circus also great and flows but completely different. a progression and constant improvement by builder and rider, now a style invented in BC is influncing the world of biking, including area like Moab

What we have here cannot be taken for granted, but I see it everyday on this BB. the Riders against the Builders threads seem to be popping up more and more. I know that it's human nature to get upset when things don't go your way. but let it go, it sound cliched(sp), but it's true.

I ain't a saint out there. I've been to trail days, built on my own, moved rock, skidded when I shouldn't have and gotten yelled at when I rode down Incline(my bad, I just didn't want to interrupt the builders on Corkscrew). So i'm no better or worse than any of you out there.

We all need to remember why we ride, I could be wrong but most, if not all people ride the Shore because it's Fun, and they enjoy it.
Please feel free to comment rip me apart, disagree, agree or correct me.
I had to get this off my chest and now..
I'm going for a ride :D

I rode Moab for the first time this year also. While I agree what we have here is fantastic, Moab is pretty spectacular too - its just a different kind of riding with a different kind of skill set. Its also what you make of it. We ran into some guys from BC who were way more talented/skilled than we were on slickrock. They just rode off trail or scouted alternate lines. Also from some of the posts I've seen on mtbr there is some sick free ride building going on down there. You probably have to hook up with some locals to find them though.

Variety is the spice of life and I hope to get lots of variety.

I agree 100%, having been to moab on two occasions in the last two years it isnt like i dont enjoy it, but the shore/bc/whistler riding seen is the new mecca.

Moab was great when everyone rode rigid bikes because it was like surfing and smoothish then. The only trail i really really enjoy in moab is porcupine rim, slickrock isnt very tech but is still a good ride, just to many people there though.

The bc riding seen is like no where else, you guys are very lucky to live there, i would love to move there sometime over the next few years.

Shore May be Great, But it can get boring. Especially if you ride it too much.

Spreading your riding locations is best.

I can agree that doing the same trails over and over again can get boring, but by the time it get aroung to doing the same trail over again. it seems to have changed even if it's only in a subtle way, wet or dry, day or night, It's all a little different

But if the style of riding on the Shore was truly boring than the rest of the world wouldn't want to try to imitate it. Even only for a short time. you have to travel to see what others have and also what exists in your own back. Variety is what keeps things seeming fresh.

there are over a hundred trails on the shore. not to mention the kick ass trails on eagle, Burke, Sumas and the woodlot. unless your a shuttle whore you can ride alot of trails without getting bored.

Nice that you got out to moab, I have to do that one year.

You guys do have it lucky, it's rare to find a trail with man made stunts on it or jumps, especially in SoCal where I am. Our local trails are mostly trails the indians used for getting from the valley to the oceanfor trade. That means one thing, these things are old! and they get used by everyone. We would be kicked out real fast building stunts on them. Know that you guys are damn lucky, having some of the best trail builders and riders in the world. But watch out, cause SoCal will be invading in the next few years, getting our riders up there and finding out how to ride wet slippery logs 10 feet in the air(it ain't gonna be pretty). Props on the trails guys, I hope to ride them soon.
