View Full Version : 03 shivers: play between the uppers and lowers...?

Over the last couple of rides I have noticed some significant play between the uppers and lowers of my 03 shivers. There about due for a 6-month overhaul and my guess is that the bushings are just worn out. This is pure speculation considering my little experience with the workings of this fork. Any advice or inputs would be helpful. Thanks.
def. sounds like a bushing issue...
take it to your LBS for service... if u ride it like that you'll wear your stanctions....:(

Where do you see play??
I'd be suprised if your bushings are worn...I know a lot of guys running 2001 Shiv's that have hardly been maintained (all of which are on original oil seals still) and are tight like the day they were new. Internally the 03 is pretty much the same. I'd like to see it.

you cant see it, but you can feel it when you lock up the front end and rock it back and forth. It seems to be happening at the seals between the uppers and lowers. I think i will just take her into the shop, let them figure it out.

Hmm. Lets all hope life gets more interesting for Rossco so he can get his kicks doing other things than deliberately being a tad on the "jerk" side on the internet.
You have all kinds of good info to contribute. You should focus on that instead of trying to make people mad.:)

Deciding factor?
If I don't like the Shiver, there is no question I could sell it for enough to cover the cost of a Slider +. It would be difficult to go the other way on it. It also looks real badass, and that's pretty important too.
I gave up the light Banshee when my frame started with an "S" instead of a "C"...

Have you seen the Chaparral? It looks beefier than a Scream. Frame weight is probably the same.
It's all in the parts spec.

Chaparral is a good 4 pounds + lighter than the Scream. It's an epic/trail bike.
It's not a Big Brother to the Scream, it's the little brother.
I know, I was going to buy one, Pip talked me into the Scream.

How much is the weight of the Scream frame? Because the Chaparral looks really beefy and I would think the frame (with shock) must weigh around 9lbs.

Scream with shock = 13.5 pounds.
Chaparral with 5th is around 9

I think switch just crapped himself...
:P
The scream has those internally reinforced stays and such... Seriously large amounts of metal there.

That further reinstates my theory of there being no such thing as a Light Scream. 44 pounds was what it was, 48 or so is what it will be now (new tires on top of the new fork @ 1200 G's each, 2x my current Nokians).
When all is said and done, I'll be running around 50?

9lbs is pretty good. A bike like the RM Switch weighs 9lbs, and it doesn't look as beefed up. The Chaparral should be a damn solid frame.
But 13.5lbs for the Scream...

mmmmm, I wish I could afford a Scream frameset. I wouldn't mind making it my next bike in a year or two. A white scream w/ 888's would be way up there on my "want to have" list.
