i'm getting a dk cruiser and throwing a lil fork on it so i can mess around with some skate/park/urban stuff. i don't do anything that big, but i do want a little squish. i'll probably buy used, but which fork should i get. obviously it's not gonna be majore beef, but i don't want a twiglet either.

New? Used?
I use an old 98 Z1, the 4" one, fully adjustable. I rebuilt it and repainted and decalled it with o3 stuff, and it looks awesome! Rides well and is enough for the things I would to on my ht...I bet you could find something like that used for super cheap, and its a reliable fork.

Thats my exact fork. It had brand new bushings when I got it, so I just did seals (for a total of $9.00 CAN at the local hydraulic shop) and I repainted it metallic grey (dark) and slapped on 2003 Bomber decals of a Z1. It looks awesome!
The only hard part was finding an adapter for a disc brake..If you are running disc, your options I believe are limited to Hayes for that vintage and model fork. I was able (with some help) to round up the proper adapter and a caliper with the old spacing to fit it. I run an 8" Hayes on mine.
You could find one a year or two newer that would be easier to fit a brake on.
If you are running rim brakes or no brake, this won't be an issue.

thinking about it and not too sure about a 4" on a cruiser frame - worried that the bb will be even more in the sky and that it will be too chopperfied. what do you think about humber jangerwhatever's set-up with a judy? yeah i know it's a low end xc fork, but will it just dissolve on me? as i say i don't do anything major big, but i'm no pinner teen either and i do want to be able to gap small stairsets and such. i mean small though, like 3 steps and whatnot, and little jumps and stuff, but real baby stuff. think it's worth it? or not?

i was thinking of doing the exact same thing with a specialized 24 cruzer.. it is way cheaper in the long run

2000 Z5 Air. 3 inches of travel, bolt-on arch. Can find them for real cheap these days...
a Manitou black or a Rockshox Pyslo set to 3"s should be fine....
happy hunting....

if it makes you feel better I rode a Quadra21r for 5 years and did trials on it with out it breaking. I'm 190 an lacking in the finesse department. It rode like shit on the shore and was worn out at the end but never broke. And i did the same stuff and more than you are discribing. Find a fork you like and cheap if that's an issue, if you don't need a pimp fork than and older 3 inch fork will do like a judy dh, (3 1/8"), or a z2 or anything really

I have a 2000 Z3 QR20,comes with axle/adapter
chrome colour,it's a 4 inch fork.if you really wanted you could have 3 inch internals put it.
i'll sell it for $150 canadian.it's in mint shape.
i just bought it from my friend, planned on throwing it on my XC project but had a change of heart and decided i'd rather a BMX.it was never abused by me or him.
PM me if interested.

I think a psylo may work well for you as long as it has the travel adjust. Put it down tho 3" and your off. I don't think you'll wanna go 4". I toyed around with the idea of doing the same thing with a Haro Backtrail 24". Let us know how it goes.

Did you sell your .243? Some of the parts off that bike would be sweet on the DK. Maybe just sell the frame and fork. Just a thought.

yeah i sold that bike. for sure some of those parts would be nice, but this is a serious budget bike i'm putting together. i got a dk cruiser (the old battleship grey one) for $100 and i aim to spend that or significantly less on a used fork and that's it. i still have some haro fusion 3 piece cromo cranks at home but i may not even bother. i also want to keep the bike light too, because i do a lot of city riding on my bikes, and 20 mile round trips on a 40lb singlespeed (which i did frequently) were a real workout. hoping to stay around the 25lb mark with this one - just strong enough to not break on the little stuff i can do.
