From everything I have heard and seen, it's more-or-less a race only bike.
Designed to be run for a season or two then replaced.

the Scream is far from a DH race bike....
dont count out a Spec. Demo9 if u can afford one...
but since u mentioned a Dare/M1, me thinks cash isnt to much or a problem...
teh FOES is a uberpimp highend ride for sure....few bikes as sexy as a DHSmono...:thepimp:

Foes are super nice, especially the Fly, Plush, fairly low I believe. Adj travel 6-8", but they are quite ait of bling, but so are DH-9s, Dan rides shore all the time on his Yeti.
Playmate and peeler have quite high standovers.
Maybe consider the Demo 9???? (DH, Shore, Low standover)

havent race my scream or ridden proper DH on it yet
just shore
with 24" rear wheel in shortest wheelbase setting
gonna try my spare 26" rear wheel in there some time on longest wheelbase setting go ride DH see what its like
seen people racing Screams at Aston Hills DH races here in England.
bloke on M1 came to Esher shore recently fell off ladder bike was too long, too soft and totalled rear end on trees (and himself :( )
M1 way too light weigth for shore, its probably quite strong but if you wall off ladder and it hits tree the monocoques gonna crumple?

M1's are one of the top bikes on the market. They are built as a race bike, so they have shaved weight and will have lighter tube sets and such.
They also have race angles. A bike like the M1 with a 64 degree head angle is not the best tool for Shore riding.
It will work and work well if ridden by the right rider. I recall both Shandro and Leclerc ripping shit up on theirs and it didn't seem to cost them.
If you ride the bike right and know how to land a bike with race angles, of course it will be fine. Common sense tells you dropping and landing flat and / or rear heavy puts a shitload of stress on a slack angled bike.
I don't get the argument of "Free Riding" being harder on a bike than DH racing. Go watch a pro level DH race and see the beatings and forces the bikes are subjected too...they appear to be a hell of a lot higher than your average weekend warrior puts on his bike "free riding" down Neds..
Andrew Shandro could likely get 3 years out of an M1 riding the Shore. Joe Blow who rides a little more "heavy" might find he breaks it in a year.
If you are shopping for a DH bike, an M1 is an excellent choice and is up there with the Foes Mono, Yeti DH9, etc.
If you are shopping for a Shore type bike, you are looking at the wrong tools for your trade. Sure they will work, but... think of it like taking a street bike to a freestyle moto-x comp. Sure you could jump it.. but?
