View Full Version : Coquitlam Town Centre Dirt Jumps
Looks like AKA is rebuilding them, take a look:
http://pinkbike.com/modules/photo/?op=view&image=60203
The dirt they are using doesn't look that great, it's like top soil, and is really muddy. They is a new down ramp into the start of the track, which is awesome compared to the old one.
Me and Tyler (burke_builder2) couldn't ride them today, as they aren't done yet. We will try tomorrow.

choice!!!!
yah that looks alot better than before, can't wait till it's ridable.
It's 100% tables though, no doubles. It's gonna take a long time to compact.

the djers were digging lips though so it wont be too bad. towards the end of the day it looked like it was drying up a little. The starting hill is so muddy i couldnt push my bike up it:???:
yah its sooooo muddy right now but it'll be fine in like 3-4 sunny days
:D looks sweet. Cant wait to get down there

man im jelous, wish there was sumthin like that here...:)
There is a rumour that the city of coquitlam let a LBS run the place. The city of coquitlam did an awful job first time around so AKA stepped in, I think. Talk to your LBS and city.

do you think the soil has enough clay content?
i dont know much about dirt jumps but that soil looks like itll take a lot of time to pack down

it's topsoil, so I don't think there is much clay. It will take forever to pack...

Yup, its really too bad they didn't consult an actual Djer when they made that place.
Some of that stuff is absolutly hopeless, looks like I'm going to need to go in there with a shovel yet again.
It's the same guys who built it last time, it was sponsered by Norco who put together some events.

The builders of Station 2 did a better job.. without any excavators! The only bad thing of s2 is that every jump is a gap, not a table (I'm not good enough to fly 15 feet). What's worse is that they dug out from between the gaps to get dirt, making the gaps bigger. s2 was is nsx6, lafarge dj's were not.
me and burkebuilder went there today and it was stll muddy theres a huge puddle infront of the first jump on the left

never been to myrtle, but i think the jumps are around 7-8 feet, i could be wrong though. but like i said, the lips seemed a little wierd, it'll be interesting to see what happens when the place gets packed down enough.

Tables take to long to build by hand...we had that one table that was constantly getting trashed so we gave up on it.

Hey its your friendly neighbourhood guy who helped designe and build The Pipeline Bike Park (lafarge)! Thanks for all the sugestions. The park will take some time to harden up. We are working on drainage so its not so friggen soggy! Also we've got some djers in there shaping the lips, (we've just finnished excavating). The Table Tops are to accomodate the city(as opposed to doubles). Coquitlam has been awesome in working with us on the project. Were somewhat limited in what we can change in there now because we have to follow the plans that have been approved.(any alterations and we could be held liable) so to all the diggers out there suggestions are awesome and we will be having digging days so you can come help dig!

the biggest gap at the Coquitlam Dirt Jumps is 15 feet, while at the old jumps, the biggest gap was 21 feet..so its a bit smaller gaps...

Flat out Fuck that noise....Mountain bikers raised money for that shit and this park was made exclusivly FOR MOUNTAIN BIKERS.
It used to be for BMXer's when it was a BMX track, but now it is a BIKER X track. The stupid thing is that they rigid bike will compress the lip twice as much as a bike with suspention.

I went down yesterday to see this track. HOLY CRAP!!! Looks like something I would see in a Dirt magazine and drool over. I am super stoked to hit this thing up...and luckily its only about a 7 minute drive from my house. Can't wait for the sun.
It is a MTB track. The jumps gotta remain mtb friendly. I get the feeling this may become an issue with the BMX contingent, but their bikes will work on our style jumps. Ours don't work on theirs.

I was down there digging on sunday. There were mtbrs and bmxrs. both digging and getting along. I didn't see or hear any grudges between the two. I know matt is in charge he's a mtbr, and a guy (i don't know his name) was in charge of most of the shaping is a bmxer, I don't see any problems here.

Good to hear. Matt and Coster have done a heck of a job. Nobody wants to see people fight over usage. Hopefully it will be able to accomodate both user groups...we can learn a lot from eachother.
The real bad fight is between bikers of any sort and the skaters.

:rocker:The park WILL be used by both BMXers and MTN bikers, theres poeple involved that are mountain bikers and BMXers. This is an excellent chance for a merging of skills. We can both learn from each other and share a common interest....RIDING. The jumps are for people with ANY BIKE. :rocker:
