Howdy all.
It's that time of the year again and we will soon be having our AGM (Annual General Meeting) to let people know about all of the activities we have been involved in this year, update trail status and talk about planned activities for next year, etc
Sharon will be sending out a formal invitation soon with details.
What this post is about is a specific request for people to come on board as NSMBA executive members. Like all volunteer groups, all of us have other lives to live which include jobs and families of one sort or another. With the increased ridership on all trails requiring more and more maintenance, landowner issues such as parking, trail re-routes to allow other trails to stay open and the like, we simply can't spend the amount of time that is necessary to adequately deal with those issues and do the other needed activities such as fundraising, aquiring tools, organizing trail work days, assisting with other bike groups, getting swag and prizes to give out to volunteers, and more.
I constantly hear people talk about what they like and don't like about trails, land owners, and even our organization, the NSMBA.
Well, this is your chance to do more than just talk....why not come to the AGM and tell us you are interested in actually doing something, and signing on.
Probably most of our communicating is done by e-mail, or when we meet at trail days, so being available for regular meetings is not an issue. Separate meetings only happen as required, and it is not always necessary that all attend.
You don't even need any special qualifications, other than you care about this sport and about maintaining the North Shore Trails for mountain biking and you are willing to commit to do some work over the next year.
We don't even care what level of rider you are, or even if you ride. If you are, or have, a parent or friend etc who doesn'r ride, but is interested in the sport and may have the time and skills or contacts that can help out...come to the AGM and talk with us.
We need people:
- who can commit to being at major trail days as leads and co-ordinaters (say at least 3 or 4 out of probably 9 scheduled )
- to do fundraising - any kind that works, any time
- to find donations of tools and materials for trail maintenance
- to deal with the media and improve our position through exposure in newspapers, radio and television
- to participate in workshops with landowners, local governments or other to provide essential MTB riders input
- to recruit more NSMBA members
- to spread the good word about us and maintain / improve our position in the community
- to bring new and creative ideas to help us and the trails
So how about it people...we have one of the greatest places to ride in the world here in our back yard. How about stepping up to the plate and giving something back for all those great rides you've enjoyed. For those that have and do already...thanks a lot.
But to everyone....please come out and help.
Keep on Diggin' The Shore.........PD
