alright, now I know december is the time of year when you bring out your skis and snowboards from their dusty hiding places, but I'm not giving up on the biking season just yet.
I've never ridden any trails on the shore beyond october so I was wondering if there would still be anything worth hitting in december. You know, like the lower stuff on fromme and trails like that. Also, do they close the trails throughout winter or what's the deal?
I'm in a riding depression since I haven't seen my bike in two months being at university out of town so I was hoping that there wouldn't be enough snow cover on the shore to hold me back when I get home for christmas break...
So am I even thinking straight or am I outta luck? Please help :( ...

last year i rode all through the winter - even in snow - and it was great. as far as I know, the only trail that gets closed is CBC. winter riding is awesome - frozen fingers/toes and all :D

ah, nice! that's what I like to hear...
What I am curious about though is the snow cover up the mountain... do the trails on lower from even get snow? Obviously the further up you go, the more snow there will be...

Come up to the sunshine coast.just a 50 minute ferry ride from the shore.
we don't get nearly as much snow as the shore mountains do,so most of the trails are still perfectly rideable in the snow.as long as you're not looking for HUGE stuff to huck, then the coast would be great.
snow riding's a blast when you get the perfect type of snow, otherwise it can suck.

ha, i could do... but I have absolutely no clue where any of the trails are up there and how I would even get to them... ;)
I definitely should try it some day though... can I say road trip!!!

Last year I rode more in the winter season than the previous summer. The upper trails on Fromme like seventh and UOC got a bit of snow, but everything else was wet but rideable for the most part on Seymour and Fromme from what I remember...

that is beautiful news... Yeah, it might be a little wet and sloppy but it's all good... maybe time for some new tires... :P
I'm definitely going to try it out...

The best about tech wet riding is the payoff in the dry monthes - I progressed way more riding on slick skinnies and wet rooty chutes in the winter, it made summer riding seem so much easier and faster. Boogieman doesn't seem so gnarly in the dry after riding it in the wet a couple of times (fun but sometimes not so much).

if we have a winter like last year, the winter riding will be better than the summer. january is almost always good. just have to dress warm.

this year is supposed to be a huge snow year (year after el nino)
The last el nino was in 96ish, and the year after, Cypress had over 10 metres of snow (compared to 3 last year)

Riding in winter is really dependent on how low the snow is and how deep it is.
Last year you could ride all the way up to 7th all year. You could also ride from CBC all year.
Two years ago, you couldn't ride past the 1st switchback on Fromme for awhile in January, you couldn't ride past the 3rd switchback for 2-3 months. You could always ride Neds though.
Really it depends on how good your socks and gloves are...

yeah, I think I'm going to give it a shot this year... I could get some good photos, but we'll see...
I guess I'll have to see what the snow conditions are like when I get there
